Never tested or checked and don't want to rip my instrument cluster apart to test with my multimeter. Do the instrument panel lights use AC or DC current? Reason I asked is that mine are too dim at night and I even bought the highest watt 194 bulbs I could get! I see they make LED 194 bulbs...but as ya know LED's run off DC only and the polarity must be right. Therefore if our dash lights are AC..these wont work for me. Hoping they do as the one I played with a buddies house that he uses in his car...was about 5 times brighter and white very white light..verses our 194 bulbs that an almost orange or amber glow at best.

I put one on my Xingyue Eagle 150 four years ago. In this HOT Texas heat, I've noticed a measurable improvement in the engine's performance. I haven't checked the engine temp, but the noticeable improvement in throttle-response after sitting at a long red-light at 106+ summer heat tells me they are of enough benefit to warrant their use. I do believe their function is to break into "fresh" air formerly blocked by the lower plastics below the floorboards. It looks like (especially at high speed) the lower plastics would form a "vortex" or "hole in the air" right in front of the cooling fan inlet... If what I suspect is true, it explains why the engine runs better even when sitting still, with no forward-motion air-flow into the scoop. Just my guess, but I DID notice a slight improvement over running with no scoop. Hope this info helps... Leo (ridin' with a scoop for 4 seasons) in Texas I concur. I put one one on my gf scoot. She wanted it just because it was pink and matched her scoot. As I looked at the engine I realized our stock air intake for the cooling fan is WELL obscured by the body panels...so when riding the airflow is traveling linear and parallel to the stock intake so it must get less flow?. I put it on for her just cause she wanted it. We rode 12 miles to another town...and out of curiosity when we stopped..I touched the bottom of my engine(at the time I had an identical scoot as hers...just yellow) When I touched mine it was HOT!..and I pulled away fast. Went to hers..and quickly touched and let go..hmm..not flaming hot like mine...so I put my hand on it and held it there..it was hot..but not flesh burning hot like mine. I could actually keep my hand on the engine. Checked mine again...STILL to hot. I saw them as a gimmick at first and they do look kewl..but found out the work as it sticks out about 1 1/2 inches from the body panels that obscure the intake and block the flow of air. Did she get more power? No..but a cool running engine last longer and prolongs oil breakdown. But in a hot climate they should help with power. Last summer we had a record breaking heat wave....100 degrees for 8 days(anything over - in Michigan is unheard of) her scoot ran circles around mine. My scoot was sluggish and suffered low end and high seed issues...hers did not..

Most likely the rain as you say. My Jonway Hornet...after a light rain even...the signals nor horn work until a warm dry day..dries the components in the dash..

Howdy from South Haven Michigan. I know Richmond VA like the back of my hand. 21 years now retired military..I was stationed at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown VA. Avid hunter and competition Pistol shooter..sooo Green Top Sporting Goods in Richmond..was my home away from home! ;D man I could spend hours in that shop. Also you guys host some killer Rock concerts there.I saw Matchbox20...Maroon5 and Sugar Ray all in one concert. The Bennigans on Broad st was the place to eat! For some reason Bennigans in Michigan serves you kid size portions..the one on Broad st down there...served more than anybody I know could eat!The fishing in the James river was fantastic. I don't eat Largemouth Bass...too muddy for me.But to be catching 5-10lb Bass in the middle of a city seemed weird ;D Glenn, aka...Yayiima benatigee

On a similar note, how do you all start your scoots with the cvt cover off? Everytime I try it almost starts but then the bendix gets jammed in they cvt gear (cant think of the right word right now 2 things..I lift the Bendix up and to the right to get it our out..once it clears the hole it's shaft is in. Other thing..to start with cover off..."DO AT YOUR OWN RISK"...what I do is hold my thumb on the Bendix tip when I crank...then it will run with cover off. Beware of the CVT geared pulley..don't get cut...caught or pinched. Now the sucky part..once started with cover off...sometimes the Bendix vibrates out of its mounting hole and grinds on the CVT. I assume you are talking about a GY6 50cc engine. The 150's are different and crank with the cover off and ya don't have to hold anything in place.

DX longer belt will have too much slack. Only time I saw a larger belt work was when I went from an 85mm stock CVT to a 99mm performance CVT. That extra diameter gives the belt a place to go. I have seen folks put on longer belts....only to have them pop off because there was not enough front and rear pulley surface for them to ride on...so they just ran right up n over the CVT pulley..

LMAO! at the Phantom fireworks dude... Up until last year nearly all fireworks were illegal in Michigan..basically if you could light it with a match or cigarette lighter....it was illegal to sell. So we would drive 45 miles to the Indiana border....and yes..on my 50cc scooter with luggage box. The first 3 shops..the second you hit the border...was Phantom Fireworks...with ridiculous prices and gimmicks. 'Buy one get one free' is he nuts? This is America..the only thing free is...is....hmm..is..ok we gotta come back to that..can't think of anything right now. Anyway if you drove another mile into Indiana TNT fireworks had a store and you could buy 2 items cheaper than the 1st places 'buy one get one free' It was a tourist trap for those of us border crossers. As for scoot..I agree my Suzuki RM250 being 247..but called a 250 is acceptable. But 9 years ago when I bought my first Gy6 50cc's...80 Big Bore Kit....I was like kewl..30cc's more! Of course back then since they were new to the market or sumpin...they cost close to $150.00 just for a cylinder and piston kit! One day while doing the math trying to figure a way for more power..bore and stroke calculated out to 72cc. I was like huh? The original gy6 50cc that we use was originally designed as a 72cc as they are allowed in Asian and a several other countries..so I just paid $150.00 for 22cc more and what they get for free. Each season my RM250 required an overbore as Motocross heats eat the top end quickly. So you start at 10 over..next is 20 over..then 30 over. With a $100.00 charge for the cylinder bore..and close to that for a Wiseco piston and ring set. So my lil scoot was almost as expensive. 30 over puts ya above your class be it 125 or 250. Some folks went up to 60 over but that puts your stock 247cc well over that and if caught you were disqualified for the season...for running an engine above your class...and if you clock in a fast time...they do measure your bore! Where is this leading?...well a guy down the road did not know they made BBK kits for GY6 50's...so he had the cycle machine shop bore his 30 over when the piston..rings and cylinder wore.(cause he rides with a huge jet and NO airfilter) Low and behold I did not know Wiseco made piston kits for these things. Actually I think he said it was a Honda XR 50 or XR70 piston and rings.....30 over..Going this route it cost him $278.00 for his BBK rebuild...so I told him I sell 80 BBK's for $42.00 at my parts/repair shop..boy was he mad.. Doubt this helped ya any...but it was worth sharing.. ;D Ha. He could've had extra money to spare for other performance parts. I bet the look on his face was priceless. Good story! When I was a pre-teen(32 now), we'd go visit my grandparents and uncles around the Jackson, MI area---- around 4th of July. We'd always stop and pick up some fireworks along the way from Indiana. Lol. Actually they were illegal here too in Indiana until... maybe 8 years ago? When buying them, there was always that waiver to sign saying that'd you take them out of state within 7 or so days. Yeah right, no one ever did that(unless they were from Michigan..etc). Everywhere in Indiana you'd see "Out of State Fireworks" signs. Hahaha. Now the laws here are really relaxed since then. Anyways, thanks for the explanations everyone. Although Indiana's scoot/moped law is dumb AND dangerous..at 25mph max..when cars are going 55-60mph. But down there they can SELL things illegal for you to own...posses or use there..as long as you sign that waiver saying you will have it out of state in 7 days....and I mean they can sell nearly everything illegal in that state and others...as long as you sign a permit. EXCEPT drugs. Silencers and High Cap magazines as well...BUT if illegal in your state yer screwed. Michigan allows both..I just had to pay the Feds @200.00 for a tax...tax? On the silencer. Was 1/2 price of what they cost here. Just not sure why the $200.00 is called a tax...a tax is based on a percentage of an items value or cost. I told them.."oh so I am registering it huh?" They said "No there is no registration"..yet the paperwork contains the serial number..so that IS registration..how dumb does our Government think we really are? As for What's the deal with cc's in BBKs? Like was said above..my jog is an 80 BBK but really 72..if I install a stroker crank..it will be an actual 80. But $139.00 for an extra 8cc's is not worth it. Too bad they don't make a bigger Jog/Minarelli BBK as they do for the GY650..they have 80....100..110. Which are not really that big..ya got a 47mm...50mm and 52mm bore so actual cc's is what ya get max. But I have been in every part of a Jog/Minarelli engine and a 50mm BBK vice just our 47mm ones should fit with ease. So why doesn't anybody make one?..

Suzuki RE5? Wow..Wankel Rotary engine....they sounded kewl. I have an RC model airplane engine that is Wankel Rotary...not good for low end lugging power like my 4T RC engines..but like my 2T RC engines...with the right prop(Gearing in the case of the Suzuki)..they really love to wind up! Don't run them much anymore as Nitro fuel is pricey..$21.00 per gallon. The ducted fan engine(airplane engine with a duct and 4 1/4 fan blade...not a real jet engine)..the ducted fan engine is in my 1/8 scale "Blue Angels" F-18 and winds to 22,500 rpm with no probs. So now ya got me curious..web browsed for the Suzuki RE5 Wankel Rotary...and I will say this..from what I found...if we all pool or our money on here...don't think we could still afford one.. Norton Made a version of it's 'Commando' in Rotary as well..

DX Neighbor and I bought tires about a month apart...his were Chinese cheapies and only 8 bucks cheaper than my Kenda's. 3,000 mile later his are bald...sidewalls cracked and dry rotted. Mine still look new and have even more miles on them than his do. If you wanna skimp...skimp on groceries and eat Ramen Noodles.. ;D But never skimp on tires.. :# they are what separate you from the Asphalt...

Got hit 3 times last year by folks pulling out of parking lost at stores.."I didn't see you!" I said you will never see if 1. you don't look and 2. If you don't put down the cell phone or GPS. Luckily we both locked brakes and it was just a light tap on my leg Did twice have 2 different Scoots run right over at Wal Mart 2 years ago. They both said.. "I didn't see it parked there..I thought the parking space was empty..so I zipped into it".. Odd..but I did sort of a pseudo poll here..when we Scoot riders are driving our car..we see EVERY Scoot...motorcycle..bicycle....pedestrian etc. So why is it that the cagers can't see us?

so i know alot of people use scooters to get around campus during college,... so im wondering: how many members are still in college? whats your major? ...and if there is a final in particular that you should be studying for but instead you are trolling the scooter forum! if you are not in college any more what are some horror storys? Used my scoot to get to class and to work. No longer in College..graduated in 2005 at the ripe old age of 42. Went back to college after a 21 year stint in the military. I was a Combat Medic type...so I pursued the Nursing degree I started while active duty. Could not finish it in the military..just a few classes at a time cause I was always getting sent somewhere. had not even read or seen a scooter forum until 2010? So I wasn't trolling or scrolling scoot forums..I was busy writing peeps Term Papers for $75.00 a pop. ;D From 2005 until 2009 I worked Cardiac Critical care and got ribbed everyday for riding my scoot to work..rain or shine and even in the winter if the roads were clear. It wasn't a gas money issue...it was a fun factor issue. So my poor Saturn sat in the driveway and only got started once a week to keep the battery up. On rare occasions like a heavy snow fall or blizzard..I drove that to work. Being a runner of 3-5 miles per day..I was hit by a car in 2009..shattering the bones in my right side.(She was texting and I was THE happiest person when they passed the 'No Texting' law) I miss running and can no longer do it... it is just a Native American thing I guess...cause my people have been running since 1492 when Columbus showed up here.. ironic but I found out....you can be fired from a Hospital of all places for missing work due to a medical condition.(couldn't walk for 13 mos.) So I opened a scooter sales..parts..service shop. Stopped selling scoots 3 years ago...too many 'low ballers' out there want to buy it at or below wholesale..for a NEW scoot. I don't know how other dealers stay in business. Now I just live off my military retirement pension..run a Scoot parts/repair shop and still write Term papers for college students. ;D So if you need a paper written in APA format..let me know.. Still ride daily...even all winter if the roads are clear...and my car still sits. But hey..ask the others here from Michigan...it is not a total loss..our winters are so cold up here that we often use the trunk of our cars as a freezer for frozen groceries.. So the car still has some value. Glenn, aka..Yayiima benatigee..
