While my cvt was apart I measured the belt travel on the variotor,it rides at its max exactly .25 inch from the top,my gates belt I'm using is 842-20-30, max speed on flat grade is 57@7240 rpm,using 14g rollers,will a larger belt ride higher thus giving me better top end? If so what size,obviously I don't want too much slack.or is the belt size even what is hindering it from full travel,I need to order some parts today and might as well get on other belt if that will help.

Longer belt will slow it down. You can short'n the tube the variator rides on. This will cause the belt to ride higher on the front pulley. Although this is an interesting approach for more speed, a gear change/larger tire on the back works too.  |

DX longer belt will have too much slack. Only time I saw a larger belt work was when I went from an 85mm stock CVT to a 99mm performance CVT. That extra diameter gives the belt a place to go. I have seen folks put on longer belts....only to have them pop off because there was not enough front and rear pulley surface for them to ride on...so they just ran right up n over the CVT pulley..

My performance variator is 115mm but I still use the stock belt

if you are not getting full travel you are losing top speed but i pretty sure a longer belt would in theory give you more mph all the overrange kits have longer belts for higher speed? They also have more travel on them,But if you cant get the belt to ride the full height it doesn't matter how long the belt is you won't gain mph and if it rides to high you get it popping off like carasdad said
