Has anyone installed one of those fan shroud air scoops on their scoot? I am going to make a home made one for my scoot and post my results here but I was wondering if anyone else has used one and what they had found. Right now I am running about 230 to 265 in 60 to 75 degree weather. The hotter temp being when it is warmer.

I put one on my Xingyue Eagle 150 four years ago. In this HOT Texas heat, I've noticed a measurable improvement in the engine's performance. I haven't checked the engine temp, but the noticeable improvement in throttle-response after sitting at a long red-light at 106+ summer heat tells me they are of enough benefit to warrant their use. I do believe their function is to break into "fresh" air formerly blocked by the lower plastics below the floorboards. It looks like (especially at high speed) the lower plastics would form a "vortex" or "hole in the air" right in front of the cooling fan inlet... If what I suspect is true, it explains why the engine runs better even when sitting still, with no forward-motion air-flow into the scoop. Just my guess, but I DID notice a slight improvement over running with no scoop. Hope this info helps... Leo (ridin' with a scoop for 4 seasons) in Texas

I put one one on my gf scoot. She wanted it just because it was pink and matched her scoot. As I looked at the engine I realized our stock air intake for the cooling fan is WELL obscured by the body panels...so when riding the airflow is traveling linear and parallel to the stock intake so it must get less flow?. I put it on for her just cause she wanted it. We rode 12 miles to another town...and out of curiosity when we stopped..I touched the bottom of my engine(at the time I had an identical scoot as hers...just yellow) When I touched mine it was HOT!..and I pulled away fast. Went to hers..and quickly touched and let go..hmm..not flaming hot like mine...so I put my hand on it and held it there..it was hot..but not flesh burning hot like mine. I could actually keep my hand on the engine. Checked mine again...STILL to hot. I saw them as a gimmick at first and they do look kewl..but found out the work as it sticks out about 1 1/2 inches from the body panels that obscure the intake and block the flow of air. Did she get more power? No..but a cool running engine last longer and prolongs oil breakdown. But in a hot climate they should help with power. Last summer we had a record breaking heat wave....100 degrees for 8 days(anything over - in Michigan is unheard of) her scoot ran circles around mine. My scoot was sluggish and suffered low end and high seed issues...hers did not..

But, if it's smaller, it would not be MUCH smaller, and you could probably use the 150cc scoop by drilling new holes. They just go on with sheet-metal screws.Alternately, you could probably find a piece of right-angle PVC pipe the right size, and fashion one from that, with a saw and sanding disk. You could use little "L" brackets to attach it, or you could put it on with industrial adhesive and paint the whole cover to look "factory" and "1-piece". A bright red, yellow, etc. fan-cover gives these a neat performance look reminiscent of the great old racing kart engines of the sixties! These things aren't rocket science... LOL! Thankfully, they're more like back-yard afternoon do-it-yourself science... Gotta love that!I like the easy, bolt-on factory-made ones, but I think more riders just make their own than buy ready-made ones. If you like "bling" a seller on eBay has the 150 versions in chrome, WITH a chrome fan-cover as a set for around $30... Not bad for all that shine! Leo (ridin' cool) in Texas

Leo your right to a point about it not being rocket science Ive had problems where i wish it was a rocket some of the things they do to these scooters when they build them just boggles the mind its like something from space lol
