I just bought one on eBay . $18. shipped. Bought the fake carbon fiber one. They have red and Blue ones for $12. shipped. I have an all black reverse trike 150. Thought carbon fiber would look best even though it's fake.

Im second guessing this item. If it really helped why wouldnt the factory put them on? Im worried it will restrict air flow somehow.

If it really helped why wouldnt the factory put them on? Im worried it will restrict air flow somehow. Same reason they use cheap metal nuts and bolts...low quality batteries...bulbs that burn out the first month....CDI's that sometimes arrive DOA...generic tires that are bald after 3,000 miles....CVT belts that shred and plug up your CVT and rear driven pulley within very few miles...0.49 cent spark plug...valves that are not set correctly..whereas when I sold scoots I got some that were so tight the engine had no compression...cause valves were partially open...a tool kit they call a $35.00 value item that are so cheap......the Dollar Store has them.. I can go on if ya like....and many can add to this. IT IS TO SAVE THEM MONEY! ;D Remember one U.S. dollar has a lot of value over there. I have used them and they work to keep the engine cooler. How could a Ram Air system slow your flow of air? That is like saying EFI is bad because it forces fuel into your cars engine.

DX Yup... Gotta agree... Been using one on "Lil' Bubba" now for over 4 seasons. He definitely runs cooler.
Ride safe!

I dont see thenm on Hondas, Yamahas etc either. Ok...then that leaves you with 2 choices...since they work for us. Choice #1..don't use one... Choice #2...don't use one. So you don't see them on Hondas or Yamaha's...what does that indicate? I don't see CVK..Keihin or Mikuni carbs on Harley Davidsons...but we have them on our rides. So does that mean ours don't work either?

I think I'll try this for my next project! I like it, cheap, will cool the engine more, and would bring a good feeling of accomplishment when done. Except I wouldn't go that far into body work on it. I'd fill it to make it stay on better, sand it, prime, and paint. That would be good enough for me. That guy did a good job for that scoop to blend in that well. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/394

Doesnt the moving air cool the engine when riding? Seems like the fan does more cooling when stopped. Its not like ram air that you can cram somewhere. When I look at damn near every scooter out there the fan housing is recessed below the body panel lines which tells me that the cooling effect of the fan itself is really at idle and not moving? I like it for a cool appearance mod though.

I like it for a cool appearance mod though. At idle the air can get into the fan easier yes. But think about this..at 30 mph(none of mine go that slow..if it won't hit 50..I won't ride it ;D ) But at 30 mph or faster...the air flow is parallel to the fan...and with the body panels blocking the fan it is harder for airflow to get in. So to have as you say..cooling at idle...would it not be better to have cooling when the engine is working hard and under a load while riding? Read the posts above...those of use that have used them...like them and the engine does run cooler...and a cooler engine does last longer correct? Most 60's and 70's 'Muscle Cars' did not come with hood scoops..but folks put them on cause..1.They look cool..and 2. They worked...

Look again... My Harley came from the factory with a Keihin CVK 40mm carb.
The Mikuni HSR42, HSR45 carbs are installed by some Harley engine tuners.
Showa forks, and Brembo disc brakes are original equipment on my china scooter and Harley also.

I had a pitbike see through cover on my scooter fan because I also painted the fan itself. I then took that see through cover off because the screws kept getting loose. I am running it with no cover and it runs alot faster and cools great. I have had no problems with rain or dirt. I see no difference in pickup. I took the CVT off a few times to see if dirt was collecting in there nope.

Ok..true my bad on Keihin for Harleys..mine came with Dellorto's and as a teen I worked in a Harley shop at the parts counter...and many came with Tillotson..or as we called them. 'Toilet Son' cause it seemed anytime the weather changed...they had tinker with the carb to get it to run right. So they ended up buying Dellorto's. As you mentioned many of the parts now are Chinese on them. BUT Showa makes good Motocross forks...so they gotta also make good Hawg forks. What I was getting at with him..is that the air from driving does not cool the engine better...because the engine is encased in a plastic shroud..so the cooling comes from what can enter the fan. Btw..very few know or will admit that MANY Harley parts are now made in China. My wholesaler told me she has a contract with 2 factories over there that she gets Harley parts from..
