Suzuki RE5? Wow..Wankel Rotary engine....they sounded kewl. I have an RC model airplane engine that is Wankel Rotary...not good for low end lugging power like my 4T RC engines..but like my 2T RC engines...with the right prop(Gearing in the case of the Suzuki)..they really love to wind up! Don't run them much anymore as Nitro fuel is pricey..$21.00 per gallon. The ducted fan engine(airplane engine with a duct and 4 1/4 fan blade...not a real jet engine)..the ducted fan engine is in my 1/8 scale "Blue Angels" F-18 and winds to 22,500 rpm with no probs. So now ya got me curious..web browsed for the Suzuki RE5 Wankel Rotary...and I will say this..from what I found...if we all pool or our money on here...don't think we could still afford one.. Norton Made a version of it's 'Commando' in Rotary as well..

Hank..tx..excellent links! This my RC Wankel. Unlike the motorcycle or car rotary engines..these suck lots of fuel and have lil power. Sound kewl though..like the old Mazda rotary engine cars.. ;D Attachments:

Brings back memories!
Back in 1969, I was in Germany in the US Army. I had not seen or heard of the Wankel rotary until then. Cheesh... EVERYTHING was going rotary over there. Cars, scooters, bikes, lawnmowers, outboard boat motors... I'll bet any one of those old German items would be valuable today! When I got home, one little town outside my home of Chicago went to Mazda Wankels for POLICE CARS! That was unheard of! "Things Japanese" were STILL frowned on because of the lingering "bad-guy syndrome" from the WWII days. I never did figure that one out... GERMAN stuff was "OK" but not Japanese.
I guess the Wankels worked fine in cars. Must be they either wouldn't conform to new emissions regs, or, else they didn't give enough gas mileage. For whatever reason, they faded into history.
Neat part of history...

You're all right! It was very, very smooth, but used a lot of gas for a motorcycle. I rode from Cleveland to Cincinnati with just a couple of gas stops. The carb was very complicated. 23 pages in the service manual just on the carb. I had air shocks. K Wayne.
