I am rebuilding my top end as my bike has started to burn oil and smoke. I had found a head in my spares that look good. I spent a good six hours cleaning carbon, lapping valves and valve seats. I had even replaced the seals only at the last minute did I notice it was a B head. six hours and a set of oil seals wasted. fortunately I had other heads to use. I just wish I had used my original head a little bit better. .

a 400 twin or a 250 single would be an excellent bike for me with a good engine of high compression you could easily see some amazing efficiency

the starter can either be full of oil from a bad O ring the brushes are worn out or both.
if you have hard starts when warm try an extra .001 on the valve
its helpful for all the oil seals if you run a vacuum to the crank case the hose on the valve cover is what you want to use for that. Just run it through an oil trap first or you'll crust up the valves with carbon.

I have seen a belt come apart from dry rot it however would mean that the rest of the plastic and rubber is probably in bad shape now too.

you cant even get that far over on a scooter without removing the center stand
I have had extra tall tires and cut off the center stand bracket and I don't break for corners unless traffic is in the way
I still can't scrub off the top row of rubber hairs without grinding steel

for testing porpoises you can just toss a fuel bottle in the trunk it pretty easy.
I would check the valve springs, see if one of them is broken that will cause the motor to have good power until you hit the RPM limit of the remaining spring and then you will either push air back out the intake or pull exhaust back into the cylinder

the five dollar belt is prolly old new stock its likely oxidized and hard from sitting on a shelf for years rubber has a shelf life if no effort is made to preserve it a paper box sleeve does not do anything but supply a place to put a label it might be a great deal and be perfectly fine or ?

Hopefully it's nothing expensive. The Like 50 cost me close to seven hundred in repairs for a stator install and then a replacement of the barrel and piston at a local do everything shop. ouch ! are you sure they didn't just buy you a new scooter and keep the old one for parts 750 is near what a used one cost I lost all faith in scoot shops after I paid over a thousand dollars for a used rebuild with instal it was poorly done and took a month
