Both of these have the same P/N and have "Gates" on the packaging. Is one a copycat with cheaper kevlar and rubber? I'm looking to order one now and install it in the spring.

Hmm, I'll consider a Bando belt, although Matt on that forum was probably trying to push his product. I'd prefer to buy on Amazon since I can lump it in with xmas present orders. But, I did ask for a notification email when those belts are back in stock on partsforscooters.com www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J6CFS2I/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hzaIs there any way to tell if these belts are made in China or Japan in the link above?

I don't know how a Gates belt can be sold for $5. Sounds kinda fishy to me. As far as being made in China or Japan.....take a look at this thread on this same topic....... Kevlar Belts
As a side note...I'm running my 3rd Gates PL30705...all 3 had "Made in China" stamped on them. The first 2 ran, 6812 and 6120 miles respectively, neither showed any fraying or cracking whatsoever. They just get narrower as they age, which relates to increased rpm, and fuel consumption.

Thanks for the input. I'm curious to see how much wear my stock belt has when I replace it next spring...

the five dollar belt is prolly old new stock its likely oxidized and hard from sitting on a shelf for years rubber has a shelf life if no effort is made to preserve it a paper box sleeve does not do anything but supply a place to put a label it might be a great deal and be perfectly fine or ?

I installed this belt last night. My scooter has 3,280 miles on it and I noticed lately it seemed that I was running at a higher RPM while riding at about 40 mph so I figured it was time for a belt change. The belt was $8 and came from China, pretty sure it's a knock off. I noticed while shopping for Bando belts that they usually have a green rectangle somewhere on the outside band of the belt. Does the green rectangle mean anything? The stock belt that I removed also had a green rectangle on the belt, it was some Chinese word brand that I don't remember. The old belt was 1-1.5mm less wide than the new belt.

Whoo... I've been away from this forum for a looonggg time. While it's my job to sell parts, with the Bando belts I'm more interested in just trying to make sure that quality product goes into the market. We are the only scooter parts distributor that has a direct relationship with Bando, and all of our Bando are made in Japan. www.partsforscooters.com/product_brands/Bando?page=1(y'know, for anyone else looking for a no question quality belt.)
