Remove the cap, and find a suitable workspace, before drilling.

Too many variables to come up with good answer. Maybe that's what Pete and RePete were trying to say above. How and where it's ridden, and state of tune, are big factors. My scooter, with a little over 7,000 miles on it, has more power, and gets better fuel mileage, than ever. (13 fillups this year have averaged .36 mpg) And since I'm still running the original spark plug, cdi, and coil......all still working just fine........gotta believe that this engine is a long, long way, from being worn out.

I hated to part with the money, but I broke down and spent the $2.42 necessary to do an oil change. After 7,000 road failure free miles, guess I shouldn't begrudge it an oil change every 600 miles. Also checked and drained my catch can (do this every other oil change), so after 1,222 miles it contained just 6.8 cc's (that's .23 ounces in American), of laquer thinner smelling, watery, brown, condensed gases.....So blowby is almost non exsistant in my Chinese made wonderment.....at least for now

Backfiring on decel has nothing to do with your clutch, but is a symptom of a lean operating condition. Check for vacuum leak in the hose that attaches to the right side of your carb. The valve it connects to is there to prevent backfiring during deceleration. Also check exhaust system near the head for loose connection, or missing gasket. A leak there will also cause this.

I too, am sorry to hear of your misfortune, and wish you a speedy full recovery. Your scoot is a sorry looking mess, kinda like it was hit bt a train.....are you sure hitting a curb caused that much damage. Gotta believe, that you wearing your saftey gear, is the only reason you are still around........Get well soon

Or.....you might try adding a half an ounce of carb/injector cleaner, or fuel treatment every time you put a gallon of gas in your tank. Works for me, I've had zero problems with my carb. (odometer will click over 7,000 miles by this weekend)

I don't carry that much stuff around with me......but I do carry my cell phone, and I have a wife with a pickup truck.
Now if I were going on a cross country tour, instead of just to town and back, I'd surely have a few of the spare parts mentioned above.

In my area of the country, there are numerous, privately owned, auto repair shops, that have furnaces designed to run on used motor oil. Some, use these systems as a sole source of heat durning our long winters. They seem to appreciate it when I stop by with 10 or 12, gallon, or 5 quart jugs, in the back of the pickup.

I believe we need to add a new category to one of the boards......maybe call it "Adventures with lain".
I do enjoy reading your posts lain, some are akin to my wife's soap operas.....but geared toward us scooter heads. Looking forward to the next episode.

I've used it as a stabilizer, during our long winters. Seems to work fine in that application. Haven't had any problems with anything I've put it in, come spring. If I were using an ethanol blended gasoline in my scoot or other bikes, (but I don't) I'd be adding Startron at each fillup, for I think it's main function is to help reduce harmful effects ethanol has on our small engines, and to prevent the alcohol and gas from separating if allowed to set unused.
As far as a fuel system cleaner, most people recommend Seafoam. I use MMO at the rate of .5 oz to every gallon I buy, for my scoot, and also my fuel injected bikes. It works for me and my scoot, for I haven't had to remove carb for a cleaning yet, it is 3 years old, and has over 6,400 miles on it, starts and idles fine, pulls fine at wider open settings, and delivers outstanding mileage.
These type of products, and their use, is always a debate, and everyone will swear their choice is best, and all the rest are crap.....so just read the labels, and pick one that sounds right for you.

I put a Gates belt on my scooter back in the summer of 2012. It has Made in China stamped on it.....that surprized me at time of purchase.
This winter I ordered a new one, since I had nearly 5,000 miles on the one mentioned above. The new one, (same Gates PL30705) was also stamped Made in China. So after removing the CVT cover, and the belt, and giving it a good look over, I decided the old belt was good for a while longer. Not one crack found in the valleys on the under side, absolutely no fraying, and it measured 1.12mm narrower than the new one. It will be 3 years old by the end of July, and have somewhere around 6,500 miles of run time.....maybe I change it then.
So as ricardoguitars said, as long as they are still reliable...it matters not where they are manufactured.

WOW!!! This story sounds like a bad dream. There was a time when I felt like you, and would stop to lend a hand, but times have changed. There are more criminals, low lives, and scumbags than ever, nobody has enough cell space available to keep them confined....so the streets are over flowing with these dirt bags. So no more playing Mr. AAA for me...and besides, now a days everyone has a cell phone, so I just drive on by, and let them deal with their problem by themselves.
Know this sounds kinda self centered and cold hearted......but that's the way I feel
Hope your problems with this guy are over, and he gets what he deserves.
