Well, I took a measurement of my spare plug.....ya can't make out the reading in the photo, but it's .925 inches. My magnet is hard at work in the scooter, so I can't give you it's diameter....but it must be around 7/8" (.875"), maybe a bit less, for it will fall in and out of the plug with no resistance at all.

From the picture you posted, it looks as though your oil filter cap/plug, has a thicker wall (between the threads and the hole the magnet should fit in) than most. I have a spare cap/plug that I will look at tomorrow, and get a measurement of the hole's diameter. That way you will have some idea of which part is not right.
Just changed my oil today.....wish I had thought about your problem, and taken some pics.....I have the same name brand kit as yours, installed mine in Apr 2012 when scoot had just 99.8 miles on the clock.

Either you received an over sized magnet, or your drain plug is other than standard size. The magnet should fall right in place (it won't stick...the plug is aluminium). Then you will have to modify the shape of the oil screen, so it doesn't get crushed as you tighten the plug. Just gently push up on the bottom of the screen, to shorten it's length.

I bet it's a hoot to ride.......but at 518 pounds dry (probably more like 540 or 550 pounds ready to ride), it's a bit chubby to be a scooter in my mind.

I believe most manuals recommend about a 2,000 mile interval. If I could ride year round, I would probably follow the manual's advice, but since I can't, I change it twice a year.....when put up for the winter, and about midway through the riding season. In fact I just did it 2 weeks ago....it was 20 miles shy of 1500 since last done. Cost me all of 68 cents to do it, using Valvoline High Performance 80W/ . As a side note, I do run magnetic drain plugs too.

1,000 miles is not often enough.....at least it wouldn't be for my equipment. Check your owners manual.....mine recommends 650 miles, (which is just a tad over 1000 kilometers), BUT, then states more frequent changes should be done if.......most operation is done in dusty conditions, cold weather, short trips, etc, etc.
I don't do short trips, and mine gets done every 600 miles....that figures out to about 5 times a season (Apr to Nov). Total cost (all 5 changes) $12.47 plus tax. Pretty cheap insurance.

Are you referring to this little item? Cramp BusterI have one on one of my BMW's....it has the stiffest throttle, that I have had on any of my motorcycles.....or, maybe I'm getting a bit wimpy with old age. Anyway, it works for me, you can loosen your grip, and maintain throttle setting with just a little thumb pressure. Not as nice as cruise control.....but for $10.00, I'm happy with it.

Alright, I have some results from my oil temp dipstick. 150cc air cooled scooter. Riding near midnight to work and work to home in the early morning, 3.8 miles, has a consistent reading of 50-60 (122-140 F) degrees Celsius. Riding from work to home in the hot afternoon, 3.8 miles, has a reading of 60-70 (140-158) degrees Celsius. These figures are only from 2 seperate occasions. I hope this helps. I tested the dipstick when I got with hot water and it was fairly accurate. And I live in south Texas. Nights are in the mid 80s, afternoon high 90s to 100s If all of your riding is in the 3 to 4 mile range, then I hope you are changing your oil frequently. I also hope you took the time to read the article I linked, back in reply #7. It will make clear why I say frequent oil changes are a must, for you, and anyone else who does mostly short trip driving.

A genuine Honda.....a 2007 model.....and you can't get parts for it? .....Something doesn't seem right here. My Elite is a 1997 Sorry about the mix up in model year.....I was going by the first post in this thread where you stated it was a 2007.

Very interesting......the one thing I don't like about my scoot, is that front suspension. I can't see where it is any better than a bicycle, with a solid front end. Think I might have to check into this some more.

I know that cool damp air will make more power, but July and August are our warmest months.....been running in 80's here lately...right at last 2 days. So it's not the weather. I don't run it hard...normally between 5400 and 5800 rpm's.....might get to 6000 on a steep pull, but I will back off a bit when it gets that high. I bought a new gates belt last winter (before I gave the old belt a good looking over), but didn't install it after comparing it's width to the old one's, 19.2mm for new, 18.08mm for old. If belt doesn't start slipping betfore totally shot, I should at least notice increased rpm's to maintain my cruise speed, as it wears....and a drop in mileage. Forget to mention that this scoot has no hotrod ignition components.....just the Chinese factory installed cdi, and coil. Oil: Mobil Delvac 15W/40 since new....changed when uncrated, and at 100, 300, 600, and 1000 miles. Then at 600 mile intervals. Fuel: 91 octane non ethanol only.....from a dedicated non ethanol pump/hose.

In a couple of weeks my Jonway will reach 7,600 miles, and an oil change will be due. I was planning on doing some other PM at the same time.....change spark plug (still running the original NGK C7HSA), valve adjustment (last adjusted at 2,502 miles), and change the drive belt (at oil change, it will have 6,620 miles on it). Have decided to put off doing any of it, except the oil change. Here's why. Went out for my weekly gas fill up this AM, and was happy to see that this was the 5th consecutive tank delivering more than mpg. Last years average was .9 mpg.....17 fillups this year have averaged 89.03......but the last 10 have averaged .4 mpg. Not bad for a Chinese 150, with a carburetor, and a 210 lb rider. Starts and runs better than ever. So I'm not going to mess with anything except the oil. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Well jtron, sounds to me like you pretty much have it figured out. If your engine usually starts the 1st or 2nd time over, but gets to where it takes a few more revolutions to get it fired, you'll know where to look.
Adjusted my Chinese valves a couple of times between 0 and 2500 miles. Guess things were pretty well settled in by then, because haven't adjusted them since (checked them twice, no adjustment needed). Scooter now at 7200 miles, so very shortly it will be 5000 miles since last adjusted. I might add that I don't hammer on my scoot, but instead, ride it conservatively.
Re-read what rockynv posted.... it doesn't leave much to be said
