For me it is simply knowing I have a reliable ride sitting in the garage that I paid $800 for 4 years ago and still runs great..., and is fun to ride.

Last year was the first year Virginia required scooters to be registered. It was a $10 fee, no big deal. I just got the notice for my renewal and now it is $20.25. ? It doubled in one year? I think I can find the extra $10.25, but still... Seems like a bait and switch in a way. How much does registration cost in your state? Not a 2 year tag, is it? That was my first thought, but no, just one year.

Thankfully they do not tax scooters as personal property...yet. At the same time, last year when i went to initially register it I thought that with the time it took they were probably losing money with the $10 fee.

What Rd said. Find the right coupon and you can get that HF multimeter for free. I don't fully know how to use one either, but you don't need to. Just a few simple principles like reading voltage and checking for resistance are all you need on a scooter. Take a deep breath, have an adult beverage and relax. Its a simple machine and you have endless resources here and elsewhere.

Yes the less you use your brakes the better mpg you will get. The heat generated from braking is wasted energy. No braking = no wasted energy = more mpg. Simple physics. Vehicle brakes are biased towards the front for a reason, and you should apply the same bias when braking your scoot. When you brake, the weight shifts forward so the front tire assumes most of the traction/braking duties so you should apply your brakes with this in mind.

Reading through this I was starting to question the logic of it all. But after reading about the shop and all of the expertise you have available, mod the he11 out of it

Sounds like a good deal. But 94 huh? I hope I'm riding something when I'm 94.

Cushioning additives? Never heard of such a thing. Part of what the lead was for, to cushion the valves as they hit the valve seats. This was figured out when on December 9, 1921 chemists led by Charles F. Kettering and his assistants Thomas Midgley and T.A. Boyd working for Dayton Metal Products Co by that time a part of General Motors. Part of the package put in the top tier premium gasoline's what is know as an anti-valve seat recession additive. Ok. I understand the lead concept but was unaware it had been replaced with something else and that it was only in a specific grade of gas.

Cushioning additives used to be called lead. The most important thing that hasn't been mentioned is that using that boat fuel is illegal and if the proprietor is honest you will not be able to put it in your scooter directly. It should be tinted to identify it to officials and your mechanic. Thats what I thought. Lead was used to cushion/slash lubricate the valves. This hasn't been replaced with other cushioning additives, but valve seats have been hardened.

Remember too that the premium gas has more than just cleaners and additives to prevent predetonation as it also contains additives to cushion the valves so they don't hammer at the seats so badly and take longer to wear in. If you have to keep loosening your exhaust valve when you adjust it that means that the valve is sinking into the head and that you may need to jump up a grade or two on the gas that you are using, Cushioning additives? Never heard of such a thing.

Made for a police vehicle or not, I very highly doubt it will give you any increased umph over a coil designed for you scooter, and that is being generous.

I have lots of Wawas near me in VA, but I've never seen that pump. However, I'm not going to pay that much of a premium for ethanol free gas. 10% hasn't given me any trouble. As for premium having more additives - at some places yes, but not at Wawa. Stations like Shell will tell you (advertise) that their premium contains more additive. If they don't advertise that fact, they don't. For my scoot I use Valero only because they have separate hoses. I usually use premium because when I'm pumping a gallon of gas its hard to cheap out and not spend an extra $.20-.30 for something that may be beneficial, but in reality I have never been able to notice any difference between 87 and 892 octane.
