Last year was the first year Virginia required scooters to be registered. It was a $10 fee, no big deal. I just got the notice for my renewal and now it is $20.25. ? It doubled in one year? I think I can find the extra $10.25, but still... Seems like a bait and switch in a way. How much does registration cost in your state?

I'm not on the US, but I wish it was 20 bucks, lol, here registration for all vehicles cost almost as much as the price of the vehicle, a $600 scoot on the US costs $1000 here, bureaucracy ain't cheap

I'm here in NC at the moment and here on a 50cc no License, Registration or insurance required. Some are on 150's that have been Debadged and the Po Po is not the wiser. My 150 is registered in Ohio that requires all of the above Total fee is $33. I have my insurance bundled with my CBR 1K and my total insurance actually went down by something like $30 bucks. go figure? I didn't know until I moved here there is a Personal Property Tax on all registered vehicles. So a 2015 SS Camaro costs around $500 per year then as is de values the Tax goes down. I Purchased a Cream Puff 98 Porsche Boxter Here in NC and the Personal Property Tax is $50. I will maintain my Texas and Ohio vehicles registered in those states until the force me to avoid this tax. My registration for my 07 Police interceptor is $62.75 renewed it today in Texas.

I just sent in my reg, sadly I already don't remember exactly. Must be blanking out the bad memory of newish car's $350 compared to my old Taurus' $50. But I think Peej cost me about $70-some. Legally, he is a motorcycle.

I think I paid about $25.00 the first year for registration, and this last renewal was around $30.00 but was for two years. In Arizona they also go by the value of the vehicle. My parents new vehicle cost them around $400.00, but my older car was $25.00 for the year, or around $45 for two years. On the cars also have to do emissions every two years for around $20.00, but for motorcycles and scooters, no emissions required.

Thankfully they do not tax scooters as personal property...yet. At the same time, last year when i went to initially register it I thought that with the time it took they were probably losing money with the $10 fee.

Same experience when I moved to Texas and dealt with the DMV. The employees (leaving out gender) were Beeotches from dealing with the illegals obtain licenses. There is a entire Black market there for registration sticker's, annual safety check/stickers and proof of insurance. So I have to pay higher premiums because.

Don't get me started man.... Living in the peoples republic of Cali, I pay 82 bucks a year for my 250 scoot, I paid 82 bucks a year for my 500cc apprillia, I paid 82 bucks a year for my 82 goldwing, and now for my 1500 cc goldwing. And don't even think for a minute about letting them lapse.... The penalties will eat you alive. My Ridgeline (2007) was 200 bucks last year, but when I got it, it was like 500 bucks a year, my big Jimmy is 92 bucks a year and the wife's 1997 Infinity is 98 a year...... Emissions on the trucks and cars, every two years and it becomes a nail bitter with older cars and trucks (way to stick it to the working poor).... Oh yea, and you register and insure 50cc bikes here. Fail to pay your registration and they will tow your junk (if it's out over six months), and they will put you in collections as well. Uncle Moonbeam (our governor), gets in your pockets deep... don't let me start telling you about the Franchise Tax Board....

Lets see... I save $70 or more a week by riding and pay $34 a year for registration and excise tax to pay for a lot of well maintained roads and infrastructure so its a good deal. Even if it was $210 a year that still a good deal as it still leaves 49 weeks of $70 per week savings in my pocket.
Don't weave the tangled web of deception and play that hidden displacement game. If its a 150 say so, be honest and get your motorcycle license, registration and liability insurance in order. Its called being a responsible rider and good neighbor.

Jar's got a good point. Check the expiration.
If it's still just one, call them and ask. Mom is about the $5 PER VEHICLE charge KS has if you walk in to renew. You can mail it for free now, or go digital for I think $1 extra total. I call it the Senior Citizen Discrimination charge, since most of them are who would go in person. That, plus those folks get paid the same whether I've mailed it or they're working the computer or I'm standing in front of them. Sort of like going into a store and they say "That's an extra $5 for you coming in here to buy your thing." Only diff is you can choose to not buy from that store again; you've no choice about buying your tag.
As I say, if nobody calls, then nobody knows folks aren't happy and nothing will change...except maybe to keep going up.

I hear what your saying, But Few of us can commute with our Scoot to get even close to that savings. Distance, Weather etc. I've live in both Sun and Snow states and really see no difference in road or infrastructre conditions my 150 is registered and insured. Have my MC Endorsement and Organ Donor too Boot.
