Wish I could help. When I rode bikes, in Denver, we started a Spring Mod Day, where we all got together and did oil changes, and basic spring maint. Too bad the scooter world isn't big enuf to do the same. Burgers, beers, and a good time.
(A friend would do it for free)

If it broke an exhaust bolt, you should hear a difference in exhaust note. My exhaust nuts came loose, and I could hear the different sound. Got underneath and felt the blowby. tightened em up and sounded/ran better.
So,yea,check your exhaust first.

I dunno. I think I'd look at a used Burgman, Silverwing, Reflex, Helix, or my favourite, a Big Ruckus. (And a Big Ruckus would look sooo much kooler leading the parade/escort) It may cost a little more, (but not much) and I think you would be much happier. Not dissin Chinese scoots, I got one, but I paid just over $4000 for it, which is double your budget.
Just giving food for thought. Used ain't always bad. I know, I like new too, but no one makes a trike, not even for what I paid for mine, so I had little choice.
Just saying...
Dave
Your local CL has a couple scooters/Roketas you might be interested in also.

I replaced the shocks on my Magna with some shadow shocks. Only thing I had to do was use a different bushing size, which came with the new progressive shocks Shouldn't be a problem using 2 new shocks with such a small diff length

I used to hear an annoying sound every day when I got home from work. Then right after the divorce, it went away.

I knew a guy who went to Walmart and got a bicycle speedo, the type with a magnet that attaches to the wheel and fork. Just had to calibrate it. Read more accurately than the original speedo.
But, I'd just get a new cable, as, those total electronic ones (Dakota Digital) are really expensive, let alone a PITA to wire/configure.
Either way, glad it was just a small issue, and a speedy fix

I'm confused: Your brother has just been killed by a negligent driver and you're upset cause u had to spend your money on his funeral instead of getting a new scooter? Man, W T F is wrong with you??
I'd sell my scooter, goldwing, Fleetwood and my Avalon if need be, for a family member. Psycho is right.

There sure seem to be a lot of problems with Chinese . . Are they possibly all made by the same manufacturer? I have bought 2 scooters made by the same Chinese manufacturer and neither one had any serious problems . Possibly mine will pick up problems later with miles on them ,but on the initial arrival and PDI .problems are minimal . Verne If you haven't had any serious problems by now, you will NEVER have any. and that's a promise, and I'm practicing on running for president, as, we now elect any clown into office. All But, seriously folks, Yea, happens, didn't Chevy just recall 175,000 cars (defective axle shaft) in the Cruze? Only diff is, there ain't no Chinese recalls. Reg maint, a good PDI, or post PDI, reasonable riding, and it should last a lifetime. We chose to spend less money and accept any consequence, so, quit beatching, fix the problem, and ride, safe Dave
