If your tank is above the carb no need for an electric pump as gravity works fine . It is common to have a fuel pecock go bad and hurt top RPMs . If you have the tank in the floorboard many opt to use a vacuum Mikuni fuel pump instead of electric .
If it is stock the come jetting lean so a larger main jet often fixes this issue .
Would help to know the make , model and engine size .

My dealer told me to turn the knob instead of with the key since he has had a few people break the key off in em . This seems to look similar as its a cap and complete key set but I would call before ordering to make sure www.scrappydogscooters.com/B-series_chassis_parts.html

Interesting since to me it seems the opposite as my scoots run so much better when its cool or cold than when it is hot or warm outside . My 2T has a carb and I have to adjust the idle speed when the temps change but my Echarm it is the same no matter the outside or engine temp . I helped a buddy put on a cold air intake on a hot rod Civic that had a long metallic ceramic composition material instead of plastic and it went just below the bumper . At 50 degree and it he went fast it would form frost and run so good . I was shocked to see frost as it was no where near freezing . To me hotter air is thinner since its not as dense as cold air so it would seem too me one would need to be richer in the summer time . When I cracked a piston one scoot and had a soft seize on my 2T it was above degrees outside for both issues . So when its really hot I try to not push it to the max in order to avoid another disaster where in the winter time I get my Echarm redlining ( has a rev limit in the ECU instead of having a CDI box ) and it seems to love it . Note when it very cold I do let my scooter warm up a bit longer than most do prior to riding and wait until it warms up from riding before stretching the rubber band you could say . I know ideal on most engines is to be around 14.75 to 1 air fuel ratio . My scooter dealer has the same 150cc engine as I do but he drilled holes in the airbox , has a muffler for a 250cc that looks like a Cherrybomb and he installed an injector for a 250cc and had to get a plug for a BMW 320i since it was not the same as the 150 injector uses . He took it to a local motorcycle shop that has a dyno and it said it had just over 12 HP at the rear wheel and was at 13 to 1 fuel aspect ratio . I want to do this mod too but it costs just over 100 for part so it will be after the holidays since my kids deserve nice gifts . He said MPG was a bit less and did not have the exact numbers but it ran so much faster and cooler . Ours are LC engines instead of AC like most are . So if you gave proven scientific data please post it or a link to some as to me it seems I would want to be richer in the summer than winter .

I normally use Castrol Synblend 10w40 and Prestone but I will test Engine Ice ( the blue stuff ) and Motul 4T oil since I liked how their 2T oil performed . A buddy who used to race nitro r/cs will let me borrow a digital in farad thermometer and note the outside temp in my tests . Today the fan ran so long I had to hit the radiator with a hose pipe but it was no where near the red zone on the temp gauge but it has always ran cool except when its or more . A buddy who works at CG told me since motorcycles turn more RPMs and run hotter than a car that automotive coolant is no where as good as Engine Ice which he swears by and uses in his bike

I have using Prestone and decided to try Engine Ice since I heard it was better . CyvleGear has it on sale for 17.99 a half gallon already mixed . So I will try it and post the results soon .

Here is a valve adjustment guide www.scooterforumonline.com/index.php/topic,1720.0.html The valves can baffle most shade tree mechanics since it gets fire , has compression and gets fuel to the carb , but if they do not open up enough it will not run good and even not start at all . All 4T scooters will need this done at least once . Know that you know this secret you may get lucky and find a used scooter for cheap that you can adjust the valves and flip it and make some cash as well as keep yours running . There is a few videos on this and more how to does on You Tube

My ATM had a wimpy suspension and rode terrible . My Echarm has dual shocks and I adjusted the rear shocks to the firmest setting and it helped it alot . My Jonway Magnum has a handsome boy body like the VIPs but instead of 10s it has 130/60/13 tires and rides very good . The Magnum I am comfy and feel safe at any speed where the ATM and my Echarm would get sketchy at top speed .
If you have dual shocks NEVER ride it with one removed at it will tear it up and you may wreck and get hurt . Oil shocks do not ride as good as nitrogen ( gas ) shocks do . My scooter dealer had some shocks custom made based on his scooter , his weight and height ( he is short ) for 300 which is not that bad as I have seem some NCY shocks cost that much .
You could try adjusting the air pressure as removing a couple of PSI may soften the ride .

If it did not do this before you may have a loose nut on the triple tree as it is common for any nut or bolt to get loose on any two wheeler . Most come with crappy tires . My TaoTao had such a knot in the front tire that I did not get a 1/4 of a mile and I took it back and made them replace the front tire . My Echarm came with ChensShin ( sucky brand ) and it shimmied violently at high speeds . I got both wheels balanced and it was amazing how much smoother it was . I later replaced the crappy tires with Shinkos ( a decent brand ) and it no longer has a wobble effect . Before with the CS tires if I took a hand off of the grips it would wobble big time . Now it does not . The CS had a zig zag pattern in the middle plus they were V shaped instead U so only a small amount of the tire actually was making contact with the pavement . I had a Honda Spree that I could ride with no hands and not be worried . My TaoTao and Echarm not so . Now my Jonway Magnum with 130/60/13 doughnuts ( fat tires ) I can ride with no hands in a curve , not bothered by cracks , patches and other uneven road surfaces that effected the other two and even strong wind blowing from the side has no effect . The Magnum has the stock Duro tires with a street knobby design , unbalanced and has a mild knobby bounce like my minibike did that I had in the 80s . My Echarm wheels were balanced using this balancer with stick on weights www.harborfreight.com/motorcycle-wheel-balancing-stand-98488.htmlIf you have a CycleGear store nearby they mount and balance tires for 20 each if bought from them or 30 if you have your own tires . Note they do not R&R the wheels so you would have to take them off and reinstall yourself . CG has a high speed balancer .

I had a vacuum hose come off and it killed the power but was restored once I hooked it back up . Most of the time the valves get too tight which makes it hard to start , no start or stall once warm . Now my scooter they were loose . It started and ran fine but would want to stall just before coming to a stop but fire right back up . Valves adjusted it was new again . All 4Ts will need it at least once and my scooter dealer told many need this done right out of the crate . My older scooter I had with only 40 miles or so on the 2nd day I put in 87 instead of premium like my dealer told me to do , rode it 1 mile and poof it had a major powerloss . Since it was new and under warranty I took to the shop . He rode it and saw how it was goobered up . He removed the hose from the top of the valve cover and started it up . We saw it smoked which is a very bad sign as it should do so . He said to leave it as he would have to take the engine apart and inspect it . The piston had a hairline crack in it . 6 weeks later the piston exploded into chunks . It was hot and I was dogging it . I had a mental meltdown as I have had 40 or so mopeds to motorcycles and never once had a piston problem . Now the 150s are not as restricted as the 50s but they are also lean . A larger main jet will make it run better and be richer . Here is an example of a jet kit and the additional ones will be handy if you do an exhaust or airfilter mod www.partsforscooters.com/114-48-Main-Jet-Kit-CVK?sc=34&category=133078 Remove the sparkplug and compare it with this chart to get an idea of how the jetting is www.4secondsflat.com/plug_chart.html . Even on my Echarm with EFI with premium gas if it is hot outside sometimes it can have a mild spark knock but never does when its 75 degrees or less and seems to love winter as it performs better . Some may argue over 87 vs but I suggest that you also only use premium preferably if you can get it without ethanol in it . Go here and look for your state and see if you have any gas stations that have real gas pure-gas.org/

You can get a compression gauge kit at Harbor Freight for 20 dollars . Being a 1985 most likely the rings are worn . A burned up exhaust valve will also make it smoke .

I too have found better prices on many thing at Amazon myself , but that place seems to have it easier to find by size and a large selection so you can see what is out there .
