So I got a brand new 150 last week and I'v been riding it pretty hard and didn't officially "break it in"...dumb, I know..but whatever it's under warranty I figured. So I was coming home from a 30 mile trip today and it has totally lost about 50 percent of its power and dies when u come to a complete stop if not holding the throttle open some...also it has a knocking/tapping sound when you are driving and get up to 3/4 or more throttle. Any ideas?? I'm going to go out tomorrow and check valve gap and compression, and hope it's something simple instead of a broken piston or ring..and go from there. Any help would be appreciated! Btw it only has skit 250 miles on it

Yea it sounds like your valves but the knocking and tapping is not good. But if it is under warranty do not open it up try to get them to fix it. If you open it up your warranty is out the door. Alleyoop

could be a cam bearing failure... I had that happen on my 50 cc and it was still under warranty. I had got it fixed and all I had to pay was the labor fee

I had a vacuum hose come off and it killed the power but was restored once I hooked it back up . Most of the time the valves get too tight which makes it hard to start , no start or stall once warm . Now my scooter they were loose . It started and ran fine but would want to stall just before coming to a stop but fire right back up . Valves adjusted it was new again . All 4Ts will need it at least once and my scooter dealer told many need this done right out of the crate . My older scooter I had with only 40 miles or so on the 2nd day I put in 87 instead of premium like my dealer told me to do , rode it 1 mile and poof it had a major powerloss . Since it was new and under warranty I took to the shop . He rode it and saw how it was goobered up . He removed the hose from the top of the valve cover and started it up . We saw it smoked which is a very bad sign as it should do so . He said to leave it as he would have to take the engine apart and inspect it . The piston had a hairline crack in it . 6 weeks later the piston exploded into chunks . It was hot and I was dogging it . I had a mental meltdown as I have had 40 or so mopeds to motorcycles and never once had a piston problem . Now the 150s are not as restricted as the 50s but they are also lean . A larger main jet will make it run better and be richer . Here is an example of a jet kit and the additional ones will be handy if you do an exhaust or airfilter mod www.partsforscooters.com/114-48-Main-Jet-Kit-CVK?sc=34&category=133078 Remove the sparkplug and compare it with this chart to get an idea of how the jetting is www.4secondsflat.com/plug_chart.html . Even on my Echarm with EFI with premium gas if it is hot outside sometimes it can have a mild spark knock but never does when its 75 degrees or less and seems to love winter as it performs better . Some may argue over 87 vs but I suggest that you also only use premium preferably if you can get it without ethanol in it . Go here and look for your state and see if you have any gas stations that have real gas pure-gas.org/

Well it's not good, just turning the kickstand by hand feels like there's some drag to it, valves were good both around.004, but compression test results were 80psi ...oil also looked kinda dirty brown instead of the nice pretty golden color it should be..also there was some oil splatter on my rear fender beneath my valve cover vacuum line! Doesn't look good my friends...so far all I have done is remove valve cover to check valves so hopefully that won't void my warranty, they shouldn't even be able to tell that I opened it. What to do now...

Take it back to where you got it if you can't rebuild it yourself

I can't, ordered it online...my guess is the engine is trashed and they're going to have to send me a new one, I'm not gonna mention the name of the place but they are pretty reputable and I'v heard good things about people not having any issues with them when it comes to parts replacements and warranty stuff, so worse case scenario I hope it's just the top end that is bad and nothing else, and maybe I can talk then into just reimbursing me for a rebuild kid because I have been wanting to get a taida 61mm bbk for it anyway from scooter elements. But I have a backup engine from my old 150 scoot that I can always use if nothing else.

I think a call to your "dealer" is the first order of business unless you don't mind a brand new bike having a wrecked engine. Regardless of your break-in method there is no way you should be having these issues on a new machine...

Yea that's my thought! I called him yesterday and he said it sounds like a manufacturer problem and he was going to make some calls and get back to me by the end of today

Well my dealer said the manufacturer would not pay 160 for the taida bbk I wanted, he said they'd either refund me 80 dollars or send me another engine...well duh, of course I'm gonna take a new engine instead of 80 Freakin dollars, the labor it's gonna take me is worth more than that! So I guess I'm gonna have a brand spanking new 150 engine for sale if anyone is interested!! And I'll buy the kit with the money I get from the engine. Hopefully there is no damage done to my bottom end from the engine failure! Anyone interested txt me 7654997516
