Don't think a belt goes bad from lack of use that quickly. My scooter sits unused for nearly 5 months every year, and the belt I changed this summer was 3 years old. Could it be that a mouse built a nest somewhere while your scooter sat. They will stink when near something that gets hot after starting.....or maybe the paint burning off your new scooter's exhaust system.
Get out and ride it.....you'll get used to it. I was 65 when I got mine.....enjoy it more every year...... they require more maintenance than a car, or brand name motorcycle.....but are great fun, and can be very reliable if treated right.

I wouldn't fix something that isn't broke. You should probably get a couple of years out of the battery if kept on a maintainer during off season, and it fits the battery box correctly when in the scooter. They don't like to be shaken about, or banged around in an ill fitting compartment. 18 months ago, I bought my first replacement battery for $22. with free shipping. It is still going strong.....can't see spending big bucks.....if I can get a couple of years out of an inexpensive one. Only 7 miles? Have you even had the CVT cover off? Maybe there is already a Bando on it. My scoot came with one. I'd just check it once in a while for signs of wear, fraying, cracking, etc. When you're in there, get the numbers off the belt, and order the brand you want in the correct size, to use when the time comes. If you are one of those people, that feel it necessary to use a fist full of throttle every time you leave a stop sign, or light......then disregard the previos paragraph, and replace your belt now.

I really doubt that it's the gas you've been using......I'd be looking elsewhere for a problem with overheating.
I burn 91 octane, non-ethanol in my scooter (10.5:1 cr), and in both BMW's (10:1 cr), without any pre-ignition.
Don't know anything about your Lifan, but would almost bet it is liquid cooled.....if so, I'd sooner think that is the route of your problem......not the gasoline. A steady diet of ethanol blended fuel, will only add to your woes.

You say this only happens when "Going up hills, or on long periods of WOT", and "It will start back up after a few minutes and go".
Classic signs of overheating, sounds like it is running too lean to me, and that would mean your problem is in the carburetor jetting......I really doubt that both scooters have valve problems, and you did say both act up when running this particular carb.....Am I reading that right? Have you rejetted it for the the BBK?

Why would anyone use oil recommended for a low rpm Diesel engine in a high rpm scooter when no manufacturer recommends it? Think about it Oh, but you are wrong.....The manual that came with my scoot recommends 15w40.....there are many other brands that do also. Then, there's my 2011 Camaro... tach redline is 7,000 rpm....and the crankcase is full of diesel oil, but it is a 5w40. Not what is recommended, but I didn't want my timing chains worn in two at 35000 miles....as some have. Run what you want, whatever brand and weight makes you feel good, change it when you feel it is time...it's your scoot....your money....your choice.........and none of my business

dickyh ........ There are 626 places in Florida, that sell ethanol free gas. So you don't have to burn a 10% blend if you don't want to. Gotta be something near you. Pure Gas

The one thing you didn't mention.... the bearings. Lots of those in the transmission, and almost always the first thing to go south back there. Does it (the tranny) get excessively warm during an extended ride? When apart, did you notice any discoloration of the shaft, did you turn the bearings by hand checking for smooth operation.....no rough spots, sloppiness, or different feel than the others?
Your description sure sounds like a bearing to me.....

I think a lot of it is just youthful exuberance.......give them another twenty or so trips around our sun, let them gain a little wisdom......they will one day realize the truth was spoken when someone said, "You can't make a silk purse, out of a sow's ear".
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a sow's ear, as I happen to be really fond of the one I own......still running strong, not one breakdown, and after 8200+ miles, it still amazes me.

Well, I like both scooters and BMW's......but not rolled up into one package. There is no way I would spend 10 to12 grand for a scooter....I have less than that invested in all three of the machines, pictured in my signature. All three are running great, and totally dependable. BMW makes some fine two wheelers, and all of them will go at least 100,000 miles, if taken care of....I have seen a couple with 200,000 on the clock......but you don't need to spend anywhere near $10k to own, ride, and enjoy one.

Remove the vac hose from the right side of the intake manifold, and install a vac cap. Then as scoot08 said, get rid of both canisters, and attached lines......except the vent line from the fuel tank. Do as he suggested with that one. I might add that you may want to re-route the crankcase vent line (from your valve cover), before it starts dripping oil, and other condensed gases all over your engine. Some, place a fuel filter on that too, and zip tie it to the frame somewhere high. Others, like myself, make/install a catch can. Catch can

hillbillybob Have you tried those deer whistles on your bikes there? No I haven't. Back in my truckin' days, a lot of my partners in crime used them. I sort of figured if a deer couldn't hear my eighteen tires singing down the highway, or that big diesel engine breathing through twin, 5" exhaust pipes, he (or she), wasn't going to hear a whistle either. But since my two wheelers make so much less noise, maybe I should try a set of them, on just one, to see if I sneak up on fewer while riding that particular bike. On my way for coffee this morning, had to slow from 35mph to 10mph, and drop from 4th to 1st gear, while a goofey doe stood in the middle of the road, looking straight at me, trying to figure out just what that thing coming at her was. Never needed to brake, for she was a quarter of a mile up the road when first noticed, but she didn't leap into the woods until I was within 150 to 200' of her. By then I had slowed, and dropped a few gears, expecting 1 or 2 more to jump out in front of me, and follow their buddy. Non did, but I was ready. As I said earlier, this is almost a daily thing for me, and why I won't run much over 35 on our county roads.....even on the 1200cc machines.

It is very seldom that I don't have to brake for deer when taking a ride on the scoot or one of the motorcycles. My area, has a really big deer population. I won't ride more than 35 mph on a lot of roads, because as you said, you can't see far enough to the sides of the driving surface, due to corn fields, woods, or other tall growth. I haven't hit one with a bike.....have come awfully close....and thought to myself, "boy I'm glad I wasn't running 5 or 10 mph faster".
Deer are not solitary animals.....if you see one.... there are always others nearby.

Are you sure it is the heat shield? Don't know what model scooter you're speaking of, but some like mine, with the rear disc brake, are known to rattle in that area. I took the muffler heat shield off mine when new, thinking that was the culprit....but it wasn't. Turned out to be the brake caliper/pad/pin design, still rattles today when applying more than 1/2 to 2/3 throttle. Doesn't seem to bother anything other than my ears though, for with 8,100 miles on them, the pads show little wear, and work just fine.
Just a thought.

Since this isn't your first rodeo...so to speak, I have to believe you realize that a PDI, includes a lot more than just engine and gear oil changes. If one isn't performed, your scooter will never be dependable, and I doubt if it.will even be running in a thousand miles. But you already know this.......right?

How about switching gas stations.....find one that has a dedicated hose for each grade.....or better yet, one that sells gas without the moonshine added. Just make sure that it too, is delivered through a hose, that dispences only that product.
