Hello Riders.

I am Bob HAWK. Joining up to support my new Chinese ride.
Moped forum, Moped Army is not the place for anything with a floor.
Riding locally since I landed in Virginia in 1996.
Tomos Targa LX Top Tank. White one was $1260 in 1996. Replaced in 2009 with the black one ($1640) that lasted until July 2015.

Well, I bought a new ride, a TaoTao ATM-50 for $500 and $198 shipped.

There are four of these common scooters around my neighborhood, but mine is garaged and maintained. Oil and gear oil changed before start up. Assembly was fun with a beer and a buddy in a garage with a fan.

Arrived in an angle iron framed box.

Chicks love it. Children point and stare.

This is the cure for that "HOT car in the parking lot" problem. Grocery able and mission ready.
I waxed it and de-badged it so far. I might do some modest modding. Valve adjustment and spark plug replacement is next. It runs well on SUPER gas, but I run near fully loaded with cargo and myself.

So please suggest what you feel are 'must do' mods for this ride. And tell me, does the left brake set off the brake light? Or does the right, rear brake only activate the brake light?

Left side is rear brakes and activates the light. Right side is front ABS disk brake. Is that correct, or should either brake activate the brake light? Extra photo:

Since this isn't your first rodeo...so to speak, I have to believe you realize that a PDI, includes a lot more than just engine and gear oil changes. If one isn't performed, your scooter will never be dependable, and I doubt if it.will even be running in a thousand miles. But you already know this.......right?

The TOMOS Targa LX was problematic and a maintenance hog. I could keep up with it until the throttle fell apart and the rear tire went flat again. No replacement available, I had to sell it to a guy with throttle.

This new ride has great storage in the glove box and below the seat, in the hot box.
The ride is so much better with those fat tires. The speed is about the same, but the power is better.

The TOMOS Mopeds did not need any PDI and ran well from the start. What is P.D.I.?

Now I have a gas gauge and electric start. A CVT trans and ABS front brake. This is advanced technology for a $500 scooter. I am very pleased so far.

Can anyone see the photos that I promised? I can not see them as I view from work.

The P(re) D(elivery) I(nspection) is what the local dealer is supposed to do when he un-crates the bike and prepares it to be delivered to the customer. When you purchase a crated bike on the internet it is up to you to perform the PDI and initial setup tasks just like the mechanic at a local dealership would. The better job that is done on the initial inspection and setup the more reliable the bike will be.

Brake fluid should also be flushed and changed before running the bike for too long.

O.K. Valves adjusted and brake lights work with both brake handles.
This ride is great fun and is an industrial tool for for my many missions.
With a box on the rack, I can eliminate all the litter in my neighborhood.
A car is too big and a bicycle is too high to reach litter on the ground.
