Just another update. When I parked the scooter for the winter I had 1600 miles showing. The winter here has been record setting for snow and cold. Been under freezing temps here since just before Christmas. Had a warm day yesterday so I figured I would start the scooter and let it run a bit. Started right up! Yes it is still the original crappy ;-) Chinese battery.
Looking forward to some more scooter time this summer.

This is why I changed to a Chinese digital speedometer. This unit can be calibrated to compensate for different tire diameters. Plus it has at ton of extra stuff like a tach and trip odo.

That or during the heavy rain water got into something and is causing a dead short. That could be a bit harder to find.

Scooter is still doing great. Only problem I have had is that the cancel button on the turn signal switch popped off and the muffler now has a pretty good rattle at certain RPM's.
I have played with the variator some and now have a solid 50 mph. Just received some more rollers and sliders and hoping to get a bit more. I think the next step is larger carb and exhaust. I may even order in a head and try a port and polish too.
I never checked the valve clearances since I have had it. At 1300 miles I figured I had better. Valves did not even need adjustment! Now that is impressive.....
No adventures lately just in town and work trips. I am looking at doing some scamping next year though. Just need to get some light weight gear and talk my son into going. Going to make up some panniers for extra storage. Oh, I did add a trunk and a aftermarket electronic speedometer that has speed, RPM, ODO, Trip, and Time. The speed is calibratable so now I know my real speed. Old speedo was off by as much a 8 MPH.

Take the spark plug out and try and turn the motor at the crank and not at the cam.

I thought Chinese scooters were only good for about 2000 miles.

Yes! Any vacuum leak between the engine and carburetor is problem. If you have a leak it will lean out the fuel mixture. To compensate you probably had to crank up the idle screw to get enough fuel to run at idle. At that point there is very little manifold vacuum at the carb. Any adjustment to the idle mixture now will not change anything since the idle jet needs strong intake manifold vacuum to pull fuel from the bowl.

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Like mentioned before low vacuum = less fuel pumping action.

Ok, lets see if the float bowl is even getting fuel. Find the float bowl drain line and open it up. You should get some fuel out of it once you open it up. If you get fuel then suck on the fuel shutoff valve vacuum line and see if the fuel begins to flow again. If good the next problem could be a clogged pickup tube. Seems to me I did read where this can be a issue with some Chinese units that use some sort of packing material in the fuel bowl for shipping. It is suppose to dissolve with the fuel, but sometimes causes issues. This means you need to take apart the carburetor and remove the pickup tube. I use a piece of copper wire removed from a power cord to clean out the passages in the tube. Copper is softer than brass so it will not easily damage the pickup tube diameters which are critical to fuel metering. Usually to test if I have a fuel delivery issue I use starting fluid, like mentioned above, and squirt a bit in the intake. If the engine starts for a few seconds then it is a fuel issue. Make sure the vacuum lines are leak free. Suck on them and stick your tongue on the end of the line. It should hold your tongue in place. If it pops right off then you have a leak. Most Chinese scooter dealers off a 1year parts only warranty. I would contact them and tell them your issue. Then I would try and get them to send me a intake manifold, carburetor and fuel shutoff valve. I have had warranty issues in the past and usually they will get you the parts that you need to get going again. I looked at your link above (scooter) and they have those parts listed for sale so it should not be a problem. If they refuse a new carburetor is $21. . Good luck, George.

Just ordered in some more sliders and rollers to try and get that variator turned a bit better. Have not as good excel, but a stronger top end now. Performance variator using stock weights right now. The 11 gr sliders bogged too much.
