Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and have been looking for answers for weeks. I have a 2009 TNG Milano 150. I picked it up from a buddy not running. I cleaned the carb (tonight made the 4th time) and finally have gotten it running. However, it will not idle. It only has 87 miles on it so I am not sure if it needs a valve adjustment or not. Does the pilot jet in the carb need to be adjusted anywhere specifically or can it just be tightened.
In addition to the scooter not idling, it will also begin to backfire after it warms up a little bit and the throttle goes above half. It will bog down and this evening it died and I wasn't able to get it started.
Lastly, none of the lights work. I am able to kick start the scooter and, when I am kicking, the lights on the dash faintly come on, along with the tail light and the running lights (I think), but then shut off as soon as the kick is over and done with. This one is the hardest for me as I am not so good with electricity. I am mechanically inclined as it all makes sense because I can see it (except I can't figure out why it wont idle).
Thanks in advance for your time folks!

Honestly I'd recommend starting fresh with a new carb, they're not that expensive if you check on Amazon or eBay, all new vacuum/fuel lines, fuel filter and a fuel pump, maybe a plug too. At least then you'll know what you're working with a little bit better.
No more than 87 miles on it and honestly it's probably too early for a valve adjustment though it never hurts to check them out.
Not sure about the backfiring issue, I'm still learning these things every day as well.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like an air leak. Check the intake manifold and spacer if you have one.

Thanks for the advice folks, I'll check it out. Would adding a manual petcock and one of those pod filters eliminate the need for a vacuum system all together?

Now this is making even less sense. I went out and pushed down on the intake manifold (the rubber around it always looked a bit off) and I can get the scooter running, and idling. However, even the slightest amount of throttle will kill the engine. I then have to give it gas to get it going, but it seems to bog down at 1/2 throttle up, and will go back to settling at idle.

you need a better look at intake then that what you did , did nothing at all.

Would a leak at the intake manifold be a good reason for why it seems like the air mixture screw does absolutely nothing? I went from 1.5 turns out to about 5 and there was no change in the engine sound at all.

Yes! Any vacuum leak between the engine and carburetor is problem. If you have a leak it will lean out the fuel mixture. To compensate you probably had to crank up the idle screw to get enough fuel to run at idle. At that point there is very little manifold vacuum at the carb. Any adjustment to the idle mixture now will not change anything since the idle jet needs strong intake manifold vacuum to pull fuel from the bowl.

Hi folks. Update time. I pulled the carb back out and cleaned the rubber elbow leading into the engine. I then double checked all of the screws on the carb and made sure all of the connections on the vacuum system looked good. I took each section off I could and blew through it to see if I could find a leak. The scooter idles, and you can also rev it up without any problem. It seems like the problems are now in the low mid range. But, I was able to get it running and take it out for a spin. As long as I keep pumping the throttle it doesn't die.
Also, oddly enough, all of the electrical seems to be working again. The headlight is out (it looks fine and I ordered the wrong replacement), but other than that, everything seems to be working. I have no idea what is happening there.
I have a question about the non removeable jet in the carb. The pilot and main jet come out (correct?)? The third one seems like it is gummed up maybe, but I don't have anything small enough to clean it out. I usually use welding tip cleaners for the carbs, or even the wire from inside a zip tie, but all of that is too big. Should I use a single strand from copper wire? Is that supposed to flow freely or is there a way to get it out?
