How's it going , I was riding my buell blast today and about 20 yards ahead a deer ran across the or road . I along with oncoming traffic slowed slightly , but I did not see any other deer about to cross because of high weeds and trees. Next thing I knew , there was another one crossing right in front of me. I had no time to brake , so I just braced and hit the deer near its lower neck near the top of the forks. The deer swung around and hit my right leg , but luckily I just drove right through it . somehow it missed the turn signal and just slightly moved my headlight, no damage done. I'm not sure about about the deer . I hit it pretty hard at around 40mph , and it hit my leg pretty darn hard . I def got pretty lucky !! The deer must have came into contact with the header , because it smells like burnt deer fur.

This video is just about exactly what happened to me. I hit the deer in nearly the exact same place on the bike and on the deer. It swung around and hit my leg just like it did to him . but I was only doing about 40mph not mph, and I didn't run into the oncoming lane . I was near double lines between both lanes. I might go look for the deer 2mro and see if I killed it.

Welcome to the 2 times club! lol, just kidding. I'm lucky that we don't have big animals running around free here, but sometimes cats jump in front of you at nights, they get scared and jump in front of you instead of away from you, I've seen that deer do the same, it doesn't make sense, it's weird.

It is very seldom that I don't have to brake for deer when taking a ride on the scoot or one of the motorcycles. My area, has a really big deer population. I won't ride more than 35 mph on a lot of roads, because as you said, you can't see far enough to the sides of the driving surface, due to corn fields, woods, or other tall growth. I haven't hit one with a bike.....have come awfully close....and thought to myself, "boy I'm glad I wasn't running 5 or 10 mph faster".
Deer are not solitary animals.....if you see one.... there are always others nearby.
Don't believe me?....Just ask geh3333

Thats absolutely correct. There always seems to be at least 2 that cross together. I should have known better , if it was early morn or late at night , I would have been more cautious.

So glad you avoided tragedy. My aunt just told me last night about her husbands friend that was killed when he hit (the second deer to cross) and went down an embankment. I just have to keep a keen eye out for little jackrabbit bunny's

Deer have not been much of an issue for me however I have had my share of Rattle Snakes striking out at you from the side of the road, flocks of Turkey Buzzards fighting over roadkill on a blind corner, Puma running along side the bike in the dark and Bear darting out on the road and of course this is Florida so plenty of Spiders dropping on you from above along with nasty Vespulam hitting you head on.
Wear your gear and with the Spiders and Vespulam always a full faced helmet with gauntlets that cover you jackets cuffs. Don't ride feet forward either or they will fly up your pant legs if they don't have sinches.

Wow, glad to hear you're ok! Here in Vegas we have to watch out for the most dangerous of breeds, I believe the scientific name is latin, cagerious texterious idiotica.

I did the same thing, only it was a ten point buck vs. my Ford Ranger. (he ended up dead on my neighbors front lawn.) I'm putting in one of these just in case. www.xp3hornet.com/

Yes I mounted the deer whistles from Walmart under the front fairing as far apart as I could get them. They have to be spaced apart to produce a warble tone which you can't easily confirm unfortunately since they are not audible to humans.
I have not had as many close calls since mounting them despite riding home from wilderness areas after Midnight on a number of occasions however during mating season or while evading a predator the whistles may not be enough to keep the deer off the roadway but you may have a bigger problem dealing with the predator. I am more careful where there are bear warnings posted and will be less likely to stop for an injured deer or animal in those areas.

Oh geh, going back "tomorrow" is too late. You needed to get that deer prepped right away. A day later, and all that good meat is spoiled.
Seriously, glad you weren't hurt. Bikes can be fixed far easier than people.

I'm def gonna try he whistles . I was mainly going back to see if I killed it , but I didn't get a chance yet. I need to invent a system that detects and shoots them before they get in front of you , lol. Some kind of laser guided thing . it would have to be able to tell the difference between deer and humans , lol.

hillbillybob Have you tried those deer whistles on your bikes there? No I haven't. Back in my truckin' days, a lot of my partners in crime used them. I sort of figured if a deer couldn't hear my eighteen tires singing down the highway, or that big diesel engine breathing through twin, 5" exhaust pipes, he (or she), wasn't going to hear a whistle either. But since my two wheelers make so much less noise, maybe I should try a set of them, on just one, to see if I sneak up on fewer while riding that particular bike. On my way for coffee this morning, had to slow from 35mph to 10mph, and drop from 4th to 1st gear, while a goofey doe stood in the middle of the road, looking straight at me, trying to figure out just what that thing coming at her was. Never needed to brake, for she was a quarter of a mile up the road when first noticed, but she didn't leap into the woods until I was within 150 to 200' of her. By then I had slowed, and dropped a few gears, expecting 1 or 2 more to jump out in front of me, and follow their buddy. Non did, but I was ready. As I said earlier, this is almost a daily thing for me, and why I won't run much over 35 on our county roads.....even on the 1200cc machines.
