You made the right choice. Same type of situation for me many years ago, middle lane of the freeway at 70mpg, cars in both lanes around me and a german shepherd in front of me. Fortunately for me I was in a Pontiac. Can't hard brake, can't change lanes. Good to hear that you are up and about..

Sounds like a great buy. No title sucks, though. I can't believe the number of bikes and boats and even motorhomes on craigslist around here that end with "Lost the title, but you can easily get one for around $15." Sometimes it's easy, most times it's hard. Of course, with that kind of a buy, you might be able to find one for cheap that needs a good engine..

Just checked your Spring Scamping post. Chloride, AZ is one of my favorite places. Best wishes for a great Scamp this time out. Probably don't have to warn you about that late afternoon Pahrump traffic over Mountain Springs..

""As for the HUD on the windshield, you can spend a couple grand and have a heads up display in your helmet, but is that really necessary?"" Sure, without it how can you use your FLIR. Not to mention confirm a good missile lock?

Welcome back to the freeway.. I don't take my 250 onto the freeway very often, but it is nice to be able to. I've had the chinometer reading 80, some throttle left, not redlined, and kept up with nearly all the freeway traffic. I figure I'm around 10 mph over on the speedometer, but haven't gps'd it. Just being able to run with the traffic is fine for me. Enjoy the ride.

When I bought a new front rim from Roketa, it came as a complete assembly, rim and bearings.

Great to see you hangin' around, Scootnwinn. Lots of the scooter riders have other larger bikes out there. Mines a Yamaha FJ1200. Usually don't ride it in town much. Twice as heavy as the 250cc and just as fast when I'm behind the traffic. I've been riding since the mid 70's and always have referred to any of my 2 wheelers as a "scoot" or "scooter" though many of my non-riding friends keep correcting me. Open roads to ya..

www.amazon.com/Hidden-Tracker-Honda-Motorcycle-Tracking/dp/B0084A0YTUThis looks interesting, using a prepaid sim card. What I would like to see is an android app that lets your old phone or tablet automatically log into any open wifi point and msg home, so you don't need a cell plan. There are some task schedulers that will send a msg to an email address, but I don't know of an auto login to any detected open wifi app, nor how to script in android. Still looking.

I use essentially the same thing, a Xena, on my big bike. I use a disk lock and an under the seat motion alarm on my 250. The main thing is that it only really discourages the amateur joy rider type of thief. The people who steal for a living will still rip your bike off. I try to park where I can hear the alarm if it goes off because most people ignore them. But hey, any protection is better than none at all. Worth noting is that anywhere you buy locks or chains there is a wall right next to the display selling cutters that will cut through that lock or chain.

Don't care much for the trunk looks. On my 250 I use my magnetic tank bag from my 1200. I heavy doublestick taped a couple of metal plates to the sides of the center hump and it fits nicely. I carry a tablet computer, phone, reserve power pack, gloves, beef jerky, all the necessities. Of course, I never leave it on the bikes, and wouldn't want most of that locked in a trunk anyway. Occasionally, I'll throw a set of soft saddlebags over the scooter also. Not to say I haven't seem some nice trunks with integrated backrests though. Probably a good place to mount a stereo too.

Good info, Rocky.. I've never had a case of tank slap, and the only recent case that I've heard of was on one of the large motorcycle forums. The guy mentioning it said that it had happened to him, but he does refer to his bike as old shakey and has in the past mentioned that if he takes his hands off the bars for even an instant it starts slewing. Other members of the group have been urging him to get that checked out. Be it scooter of motorcycle, your ride should be able to track in a straight line without your help. Not that you should ride hands free except for diagnostics..
