A contest would have to compensate for region.. As with JerryScript, I ride into work every day. And Doppler Radar is my best friend. If it's raining, usually I can just wait for a break in the pattern and change my departure time by 15 minutes or so if necessary. But I do ride in the rain, cause how else am I going to wash the scooter?

Congrats on the ride, looks very nice. I'm not sure about the foam, but it does look like filter foam. Pretty sure the "any oil you like" lady won't be able to help... If you can hold it up and see light through it, I'd stick it back in for now, until you find out for sure..

Yup, sad time. The old guy was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Hopefully, the Texas DMV will pull his license for good. Usually the DMV really hates it when you purposfully try to harm someone with a motor vehicle. And I'm guessing that if you live in rural anywhere, it's gotta suck to not have a drivers license.. Not that I think that will stop him.Oh, and first his story to the press was that he swerved to avoid something in the road, then it was the insect in the car, then it was that he thought it was one of those crazy motorcyclists that are always passing him doing wheelies.

According to the laws of most, if not all, US states, a 50cc scooter is limited to no more than 2 hp, 30 or 35mph maximum speed, in order to not require a motorcycle endorsement, helmet, registration, insurance. Certainly a 50cc can be made to go faster, and many do. If the scooter is over any of those conditions, it must be registered as a motorcycle. So, manufacturers of said scooter may install baffles to limit the speed. Others may simply lie on the spec sheet. One word of caution on a geely. If it is not a cvt drive, I've heard that the drive sprocket is nylon. Many have simply had a machine shop cut a custom metal sprocket. Hope that helps..

Agreed, Rocky. And the best reason of all to get an actual motorcycle endorsement if possible: You can upgrade to a larger size anytime. It just gives you more options.

by "savage", do you mean the Suzuki, or the 308? Seems either is appropriate here..

True words, Bandito, but I think sometimes what happens is that the bike is purchased with expectations of speed that is unrealistic. Once the performance is found to be lacking, the decision is made that it could be made "just a little" faster for another hundred bucks or so. Cheaper than trying to sell the first scooter and then buying another. So the chase begins. And it has been noted more than once in the forums that a lot of the rides that continually have problems are ones that have been modded. I think that if the Chinese engineers thought that they could reliably squeeze more than around 17hp out of a carbureted 250cc motor, they would have done so. On one motorcycle forum I read probably the best advise for improving performance. Want a faster bike? Go on a diet and lose a few pounds.. Obviously, not for everyone..

Yeah, great time of the year for riding in Nevada, especially early morning or evening. Ride- 8-in temps around 74f here in Vegas just before sunrise.

On my roketa 250 with the Linhai engine, it is underneath, covered by a vented square access panel. (actually, I removed the panel a few years ago and haven't bothered to replace it) The filter itself is on the kickstand side of the bike, near the bottom, and near the sidestand mount.
