True, there were some tech and style changes in addition to the badging. Nicely enough, this was posted on another forum a couple of days ago..:
A shootout between the BMW, Aprilia, and Tmax maxi scooters..

Yeah, those metal id tags riveted inside the cargo area seem to be whatever was in the stack. My tag says that my Mc-79-250 is a mc-47-sante fe, which is a motorcycle format rather than my touring scooter. But, uh? OIL??

I'm just over 10,000 miles on my M-79-250 with the linhai clone engine, and no problems. Nor have I noticed that particular problem being discussed in any of the scooter forums over the last few years. Not saying it hasn't, but doesn't seem to be a common problem..

Chinese?

I think it is a combination of most of the above mentioned, but also think that it was probably easier to market into the US for chinese manufactures. During the '60s, '70s, and '80s, your choice in the US was to buy Harley, or buy imported. Most of "imported" was Japanese. The British, on the other hand, had Enfield, Triumph, BSA, Norton, and probably several others to choose from. When the Chinese and other Non Japanese Asian manufacturers began exporting, they already had a consumer base that had been riding Asian metal for several decades, plus many relatives in the US that could help with the language translation and paperwork..Just my thoughts... Ride well, friends..

Wreck. Ouch

It's usually abs, so if a lot of damage, you might try an ABS welder. Harbor Freight has one for $49.00. If you are joining large pieces together, there is a You tube video showing how to use paper clips and a heavyduty soldering gun to make staples, plus the use of other commercial abs staplers.. hope that helps..

Some things you just can't prevent. Get well, get up and ride some more. Good call on wearing the gear. Please keep us updated, both on the healing and the scoot...

And, if he hasn't the knowledge, but wants to learn, a flaky running scooter will teach him a lot. After all, who would pull apart a perfectly good scooter?

Imagine if you will, what would have happened if you had fixed it for free and given it back to him. By now, your available space would be filled with broken scooters waiting to be fixed for free. You wouldn't have to wonder what to do with your free time. I had a guy ask if I would help him with his $400 small frame 50cc last year. I told him that I'm not a scooter mech, but that I would come over and see what the problem was, and help HIM fix it. He and a friend sat with me on the concrete and watched as I opened it up, showed him where to look for bits of shredded belt (cause that was the problem), and I watched and advised as he cleaned up the the drive train. Then I went to the local scooter store and bought a new belt with his money, returned, and we installed the belt and buttoned it back up. He tried to pay me, but I turned him down, and let him know that I'm not a mechanic, and moreover, not his mechanic. I'll help the first time, and advise occasionally, but I won't make it my life's work. Sadly, about 3 months after that, I heard that the bike wasn't running again. Haven't heard what the problem was, and he didn't mention it to me, though we are on good terms. He doesn't ask, I don't offer. His friend had asked me while we were working on it if putting the front tire against a tree and trying to smoke the tire would have broken the belt.. so....

try squirting a bit of wd40 into it. We use it on a lot of the locks around the shop.
