Well guys, I know I'm not always the most popular guy on here and I never really tried to be but I think I may have made a couple of friends anyway. I have decided after a lot of thought that I'm just tired of the whole scooter thing. I'm tired of having to worry about wind direction. How many hills I will be ascending and all the other issues with little bikes. The Vespa is leaving and I have already bought a nice used 1983 Silverwing 650 Interstate. It has integral bags and a trunk with a great fairing. I'm not saying I won't check in occasionally but I at the least will not be around much anymore. I will miss some of you guys and anyone who would like to keep in touch send me a pm with your email phone number or whatever. Some of you guys already know how to get a hold of me and I hope to still "see" you around. Anyway thanks for all the help and friendship. It's been fun, interesting, and many other things... Here's the bike.  I know it's no Chinese scooter but for $1200 I didn't think I could go wrong. It was owned by the owner of a Honda dealer and it only has 27,000 miles. She runs great, no leaks just needs some serious detailing and she'll be all shiny soon. I actually had a 500 version for my first bike 20 years ago and it is nice to be back in a familiar saddle. I was pleased to get 58 mpg on the ride home. I don't think that will be an average but these bikes consistently run in the 50's so I'm not losing much over most smaller bikes and it is actually better mileage than the Vespa was getting. Anyway be good now and keep the shiny side up. Oh and for crying out loud keep the shiny side shiny |

That's a very slick, and very "retro" bike! A little bit Moto-Guzzi and a little bit BMW, and all Honda! Can't beat THAT!You'll enjoy it for SURE! I'm in a similar situation, but after a half-century of motorcycles, I actually am hooked on step-through scooters. But... I'm ready for one that will do for some serious transportation without the planning around freeways, hills, etc. as you said. 99% of my use is in-town, but "in-town" NOW requires 65 mph+ capability. And, once in a while, I'd like to go see some other town... like, maybe 100 miles down the freeway... LOL! Just because you are leaving scooters, you surely don't need to leave the site! This IS "It Is The Ride" after all. If I turn senile, build a chopper and join the "Gray Panthers" I'll still stick on the site. It's for everybody on 2 wheels. Or 3. Or 4. Or even those 6 and 8-wheel thingies... LOL! Hang around, and you may become THE "numero-uno" of the cycle crowd on the site!  Sincerely, Leo in Texas

Hmmm, the second word in the banner is "cycles" so I guess, (if you want) you're stuck with us.
(and there is nothing that says you still can't ride a scoot on non-windy days)

Spandi, now that I have been riding a scooter for the last 2 years I can tell you with certainty NM has like 10 non-windy days and 4 of those are snow days... I guess you saw the (?) in the heading here. I was never certain i needed to leave... Anyway I am still waiting for that race spandi...
I guess the second word is cycles hmmm...

Yes, you do not have to leave unless you really want to. Your one of the guys that knows motors and cvts and helps out with the problem child rides and it is very much appreciated. Besides a motor is a motor and they all work the same, just the parts are different. Hope to still see you hang around and helping out.

I've also found that there's little sense in buying a 250cc chinese new bike, when it's meant for the long run. Much better to buy a second hand Japanese bike, as many go between $2k-$4k, and last many more miles!
But you won't be getting that great gas mileage that chinese bikes get!
I've also again looked at scooters, and motorcycles, and found once I have a motorcycle endorsement, there's no reason to go with any scooter other than a well tuned 50cc, with flat floorboard and trunk, to do groceries (for fun,because I can do it in a car as well), and keep the ride for manual geared motorcycles. So much more fun to ride, and in my case can be just as fuel efficient as a scooter.
I keep my ATM50, eventhough it's a year old, and the electrics start failing (headlight, horn, blinkers). It's still a good day commuter to get the groceries done.
And since the site is not called 'scoot something else' but 'itistheride', I presumed motorcyclists where welcome here as well.
I've written up a few reviews of my MC-05-127 here, which is a Chinese motorcycle. I'm sure there will be more follow-ups on those, as Chinese motorcycles still seem to speak to people's imaginations, to own a naked bike, racing bike, bobber, at 1/3rd to 1/4th the price of the cheapest Japanese bike!
