Just so you know, those transverse V Twins were just about bullet proof, they were that reliable. That shaft drive was smooth but did take some power away from the engine. Great Bike to ride!!! Congrats on the purchase!!

I have a VT750. Also did a sprocket change on it to make it rev in the 3k range on the highway instead of the 5k range.
It's a great long distance rider, but I don't particularly like riding that heavy thing around town. My 127cc with 'lawnmower engine', is so much more fun to ride (more nimble), and in town upto 50MPH there's no real reason to take out the big guy. Since I don't have to pay insurance in FL (unless an accident is my fault, but I'm a defensive rider), the only recurring cost is a new tag sticker every year on each of them.
I only have 3 tags, so one of them doesn't have a tag, and kinda stands like a backup in the back shed, protected from the elements. Now and then I switch tags, between scoots, and ride it, just to keep up the battery level, and use the fuel; I-legal I know, but hey, I'm not gonna buy another tag. If one scoot is a total loss, I'll just transfer the tag.

Congrats on the purchase!! Yes it is a great motor this is my second one can't remember why I got rid of the first one but you do stupid things when you're young. 20 years later and it feels good everything about it is perfect for me right now.

Between my good friend who was a motorcycle mechanic, we had the standard CX500,the custom CX500C, the GL650 and the CX500T, a Turbo, wrapped with Honda 1st attempt at a full sports styled covering. Slightly rare, that bike would ride normal full throttle until about 35-40 mph and then whoom! when the turbo kicked in.

howdy, yup, i had three of the cx500(maybe one was a gl) and i really loved the sound at revs and until i put on so much weight the suspension was fine. however the last one i bought didn't seem to handle my weight very well so i turned it back and rode away on the gl 1100 which i dressed up in all the vetter stuff in white. it was a great machine and i would still have it if not for having bought an over the road semi which needed a motor overhaul that i wasn't aware of till i had it apart. 11,00 bucks later i had it on the road coast to coast.. there went my favorite motorcycle. ride on, forum on.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Great to see you hangin' around, Scootnwinn. Lots of the scooter riders have other larger bikes out there. Mines a Yamaha FJ1200. Usually don't ride it in town much. Twice as heavy as the 250cc and just as fast when I'm behind the traffic. I've been riding since the mid 70's and always have referred to any of my 2 wheelers as a "scoot" or "scooter" though many of my non-riding friends keep correcting me. Open roads to ya..
