I'm new to scooters, so I've been reading every forum and advice website I can find on them. Pretty much everyone recommends the following:
Engine oil: Change when you first get the bike during your PDI (don't trust the dealership to have changed it, a few bucks can save you hundreds). Then change every 250-300 miles.
Gear oil: Change when you first get the bike during your PDI Then change every 1000 miles (check your CVT belt at this time as well)

if I'm not mistaken after engine break- in I believe it varies between 200-400 miles depending were u ride and weather conditions. I usually change the engine oil every 300 miles if I'm using non synthetic.. since these scooters don't have oil filters.

The more often the oil changed the better.

I'd suggest checking it and telling. It's not like a car with efi. Climate change will effect the way the engine runs thus rendering the "time cycle" useless. I could change the oil and have it dirty in 3 weeks, and sometimes 3 months. The only way to tell is to check.

Roughly, Oil changes on a chinese 50cc without oil filter is at: 0, 50, 100, 150, 300, 1000km, and every consecutive 1000km.
Oil change on a (chinese, non-oil filter) 150cc is at: 0, 50, 150, 300, 1000, and every consecutive 1000km
Oil change for my chinese BMS 260 was at 0, 50, 150, 300, 1000 and every consecutive 1000 miles. (odo was in miles, not km)
Gear changes on all bikes are at: 0, 150, 1000, 3000 and every consecutive 3000 odo readings (miles on 250's, and km on 150's and below).
Taiwanese and Japanese bikes have smaller tolerances, and less particles in the oil due to having an oilfilter. So they can last longer per oil change, often ranging between 3k and 5k miles per oil change.

Change the gear oil 1(ONE )time when it is new. Put in a good quality 80= weight oil AND FORGET ABOUT IT. just check level periodically. Gear oil is not motor oil and is not subject to the heat or by products from combustion that motor oil is. The gear oil is good for the life of the scooter. How often do you change the differential oil in your car?If I remember correctly, it's recommended at 60,000 miles. It's exactly the same stuff.I put 16,000 on my first scooter with the same gear oil. It's a complete waste of time and money to change it every couple of thousand miles.

My owner's manual says to change the oil every 3000 km (miles? not for sure).
I haven't hit 3000 miles yet but I've had it changed four times now. My dealer had told me it's a good idea after sitting the winter, before driving again.

probably Km. every 1500 miles should be more than enough. for motor oil.Not gear oil. that stays good for a long long time.

Older airplanes without oil filters and only a screen recommend change every 25 hours. Of course a new engine needs to be changed more often until it washes all the grinding compounds and milling chips out of the engine. If you let the first oil change sit for a couple of weeks and carefully pour off the top you will see much debris settled on the bottom. After the engine is washed out and broken in you won't find that to be the case any more.

It's also a good idea to chage oil before winter storage. Old oil has some nasty acids in it.

On a CVT scooter the gear lube gets cooked and needs to be changed with the engine oil. The gear box unlike on a car has the clutch in the CVT case so the clutch bell is constantly transferring the heat it generates along with the heat from the friction of the belt on the drive faces through the input shaft into the heart of the gear box while the output shaft transfers heat from the rear brakes back to the gearbox.
I considered that when I bought my current bike as I was changing the oil in my Lance twice a month while the Aprilia 250 only needs it changed every 6,250 miles. I am at my third regular oil change now at 18,000+ miles while on my old bike that was done by the second month and I would be up to oil change 36 to 40 by now.
In business and personal life the "Law of the Price Tag" applies stating that sooner or later you will have to pay it and that the sooner you pay it the lower you long term costs will generally be. With your scooter you can choose to pay up front and get one with better cooling and full filtration, pay for the 1 or 2 changes a month on a bike with no filtration and minimal cooling or skip the oil changes stretching out the intervals paying for a new motor or extra repairs later while dealing with the inconvenience of the downtime being unable to ride.

The gear oil on chinese scooters must be changed, as initially the gears and cogwheels chip off small chips of metallic flakes that could eat through rubber sealings and gaskets over time.
If you're not going to change it after 150km and later at 1000km, then do it once at 500km. You'll see how many flakes there are in the oil!
Once you do the 1000km interval, you could run it for the lifetime of the scoot. I haven't changed mine since and I got 5500km on it. I'll see how it looks like, but most likely it has metallic flakes in it.
