Alleyoop is right, you have a ground wire going from the frame to the engine, on many it's attached at the valve cover. If no ground is present to the engine there will be no spark. Could very well be as simple as having a bad ground going to the engine.

I think we all get the itch to trade up at times, Recently I actually put Fawkes on CL.. The ad said not for sale but will trade for motorcycle... Got some interesting offers, but in the end I simply could not part with him. I think the only way I would trade him is for my old 1980 KZ 550, sure loved and miss that bike..

When the pick up coil by the stator goes bad it will do this when hot also...I would test the ohms with a DVM on the pick up coil wire..you can also test the coil pack for ohms as well..I posted a great troubleshooting vid a while back see if you can find it..it will walk you through all those procedures and give you proper values to look for Also how is your valve clearance,,if they are super tight you might be loosing compression when the motor gets hot and expands causing the valves to not seat all the way...?? My scooter did that when I first got it, looked just about at every thing, adjusted the valves multiple times, replaced the petcock, carb, what fixed it was when I took the head off and ground the valves..

Any lawyers in the house who can comment on what will no doubt become an issue in the future? A lawyer...on a Scooter....? I knew a Judge that drove a scooter, Lost his license to a dwi, is all I know, and his scooter was always outside the bar when court was not in session..

Hummm Id say check your spark plug and spark plug wire, make sure it's on and tight.. Check the spark plug wires at the coil make sure they are tight. And definitely check what the others have said.

I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt, and your luck with your scooter and the Insurance company. I only wish you luck in the future.. And fewer inattentive drivers.

Ill chime in Alleyoop, 50 to 60 is possible for a 139, but the setup you list above won't do it. and if you do achieve with a different setup you will chew up variators, and belts fairly quickly, none of the variators made for the 139 are designed to handle that much power for long... I don't know Millsc max on a 139 but when Fawkes was a stroker I made 60.. And unless you like working on your bike a lot, have lots of money to throw away.. I think a 150 is a better and cheaper choice..
Here was my setup Hoca 44 Stroker Crank, 52mm NCY bbk, 50mm bb head NCY, 20mm carb, 100 mj, custom modified airbox, NCY high Performance cam, 17/49 gearing, Free Flow exhaust, Hoca Tranny kit ( did not use any of the tranny kit except the clutch and shoes ), Gates premium drive belts, Pirelli tires.

Well I'm not a big proponent of the 50cc engine... I just think even at it's best it's too underpowered. Where I live your always bucking an 8 to 20 mph head wind, your almost always going up a hill or down another. Your driving distances are measured in 5 to 10 mile increments..
I that is why i always upgrade a 50 cc to at least an 83cc and that seems to handle things much better... Perhaps if you live in town, you are surrounded by building, only driving 5 or 10 mins, and never on roads where the min speed is 35 they are ok, but I haven't found a situation where having a little more power wasn't a blessing..

Ohhh I'm going to build another stroker engine, see if i can't iron out some of the issues i had before. But it won't be a daily driver or anything I rely on.. It will be just for fun. And perhaps something I can take to a twist and gone festival give Skeeterd a challenge, at least try to..

Humm well theres the other way of doing it, putting your finger over the spark plug hole, and seeing how hard it blow your finger out of the hole... Is not very accurate, but if your compression is strong you can tell..
