So if I can break 29 on my bicycle it has to be registered? Or is it only motor vehicles. Here in NM we often hit speeds around 45 on descents with our bicycles... Are there big enough hills in IN to do it? LOL no thankfully not, it applies to motorized vehicles. Indiana has laws that pretty well defines what is considered a motorcycle and what is not. I think it has to be under 3 hp, top speed of no more than 29 MPH, and it must have a CVT. No gears.. Over 29 MPH, over 3hp, or having manually shift gears its considered a motorcycle.. So a valid License with MC endorsement, Insurance, and it must be plated.. Other wise your illegal. Ohhh and yes we do have some hills that you can easily hit 45 + in Indiana too... A bicyclist if going over the posted speed limit can get a ticket for speeding.

Ohhh I have no problem with it except, I think the laws should be uniform accost the State. not one rule in one county and a different rule in the next.. Just as our Drivers License's are. Thank you sir for the clarification. Yeah that's screwed up I had no idea each county had its own laws. Well yea many counties do, In Indiana the top speed for an unlicensed vehicle is 29 MPH, although i had an officer tell me it was 25 MPH, I looked it up and it's 29MPH, that's state law. So anywhere in the state of Indiana above 29 MPH it's considered a motorcycle... That's pretty much where the uniformity ends. Because these vehicles have no plate on the back, many counties make you register them, and the owner is given a sticker with a number on it. Sort of like what they used to do to bicycles a long time ago. This tag is good only within the county that issued it, along with that tag comes that counties own rules about operation. And it's those rules that vary so drastically from one counties to the next..... I was told a long time ago, that the rules from the county your State ID or License is issued is the set of rules you are subject to regardless of what counties your driving thru.. Not sure if this is true or not, and thankfully I have never tested it..

Again nobody has answered my question. How is it that regulating mopeds or scooters is an undue burden. . Every other motor vehicle on the road needs a licensed driver and registration. I'm always baffled at how some think a scooter or moped should be immune to proper regulation for on-road use. Ohhh I have no problem with it except, I think the laws should be uniform accost the State. not one rule in one county and a different rule in the next.. Just as our Drivers License's are.

Then you're a fool and you won't last long on a bike in the street. I pray reality changes your mind. The greatest warriors of all time understood there is a time to flee We don't call it fleeing, we call it a calculated strategic withdraw... LOL I too em in Indiana americanpsycho.

Yep they are very easy to steal.. If parking in a lot such as walmart, groceries store, something like that, Ive been known to chain Fawkes up to lamp post, the shopping cart containers that are bolted down to the parking lot, trees, a man hole cover, once I locked him up to a drainage grating in the side walk.... Never never never leave your scoot unlocked.. I won't describe why in a public forum how one can get around the Ignition system, just know it's very easy and can be done in seconds..

I'm glad you got it, to be honest I'm not a big fan of fuel additives. I keep a good hi flow fuel filter on mine and change it ever year. If I start having problems it's in my opinion time to drain the fuel tank clean it, take the carb apart and clean it, and adjust the valves..
I understand some fuel tank setup are more prone to water and gunk getting in your tank, but mine is a vip type model and generally I don't have problems like that. And starting the scooter at lease once a week and running it for 20 mins or so seems also to help prevent problems.. I guess my outlook comes from being a pilot, if there was any problems with the fuel system they were completely drained and cleaned and fresh fuel put back in.. Glad you got it...

I pick gold, with that you could have bought Frankincense and Myrrh..
Frankincense and the other plant-derived treasure given to the newborn Jesus in the New Testament narrative—myrrh—have a long history dating back thousands of years. Though perhaps best known for their use in incense and ancient rituals, these substances—both of which boast proven antiseptic and inflammatory properties—were once considered effective remedies for everything from toothaches to leprosy.

Larry, My Dad was a Cheiftan fan and road one back in the 1920's. Claimed that it was much better than any Harley out there. I have been tempted to get one just wish I could have ridden up on one while he was still with us. My Father-in-Law also departed was with the National Police in Italy and one of the highpoints in your life as an officer of rank would be to be assigned a Cheiftan to ride. You also got a Colt 45 semi-automatic as part of the package. Lessor officers would get a Harley and a nine millimeter. If you walked out of the Commanders office with a 45 everyone knew what was coming next. A Ridley is also an interesting bike thay I might consider as would be the 850cc Aprilia Mana. route66ridleymotorcycles.com/Yea Rock, My Father had a 46 Chieftain too I forgot to mention that... I don't know if the modern day Indian's are any better or worse than an HD.. Don't really care, it's kinda the scooter mentally, In that I don't really care what others think, I ride what I like to ride.. I too never rode my Fathers Indian, he hit a rock and flipped it, ( He was wearing a helmet ) and sold it shortly after that... The reviews I'm reading are quite favorable since Polaris bought it, and every one is saying they have the balance sheet to back it up well.. I looked at the Victory's also made by Polaris didn't like them, But the Indian ahhhhh that's a thing of beauty in my eyes..

Well, if you insist on a motorcycle. Have you considered scooters like the Burgman executive? Even my 500cc TMAX is good for 300 to 400 miles a day with the Air Hawk cushion on the seat. But then, I guess it does depend on what you call long distance. I went touring on my 652cc cruiser doing over 500 miles a day. On an overnight ride under a full moon I did 350 miles on my LX150. People get big cruisers because 1000 miles in 24 hours is easy.I haven't really considered the Bergman, although it would be vastly cheaper, the bigger scooters never really interested me, nothing against them just don't like the body styling. I have driven a 550cc Kawasaki just about every where, so I know what can be with just a few more cc's. Honestly it's a couple of things in me that's really leaning twords the Indian, One it's American made by Polaris, Id like to see more American jobs come back. Two it's very Unique at least for the time being, and my Dream ride is to go to Sturgis, I've never done it, but always wanted to, A friend of mine goes every year, He owns a Harley, and I think it's time two old rivals share the road together again.. Now that I'm retired, just started that two weeks ago, I'm thinking of my bucket list... Don't get me wrong i love my Fawkes, and as I have said will never part with him.

The post referring to removing the washer was on the old scootdawg, and you are correct that a small washer used to be used as a means of keeping your variator from closing and limiting your speed... Many many guys have taken them out and some reported a little higher top speed.. Others little difference, I haven't seen that method used in a long while but that was how they used to do it..
Speed wise will depend on your rollers, weight your pulling, and if your engine has anymore to give.. Alleyoop ( I believe ) had a great idea on the old scootdawg... Remove the washer, and with a permanent marker draw a line from the inside of the variator face to the outside.. Then take it for a ride, see how much of the mark is worn off.. That will tell you if your engine has any more to give without the washer and if you are going as fast as it will go without any other mods...

I think it's worth it, I believe you will notice a difference... i hope so. soon as i get it started i will feel a little better. just tried about 10x seemed like it was going to catch on the second try. if it doesn't start i'm not sure were to begin. i made way too many changes all at once. Well often what I do on the first start after an upgrade, I take off the vacuum hose going to the valve cover, suck on it to get the carb bowl filled, then I have a small diabetic syringe that i will squirt just a little shot of fuel down the Intake where the vacuum hose connects up to the valve cover and then put the hose back on. This often helps on that first start and that way you don't drain your battery that much.. Hope it helps
