You can get a new valve stem at auto parts store or even walmart You know you can go to any auto parts store and get just the valve they usually come in a package of 4 they have rubber an O-Ring at the bottom, very easy and permanent fix. Alleyoop thx guys, i'll do that instead of ordering one. guess the lesson here is don't buy cheap valve stems. they are only about 6 months old.

Check the valve inside the stem it could be loose tighten it up. yep, that is where it is leaking. i'll give that a try before i order new one. temporary fixed it with thread locker, seems to have stopped it for now.

You can put the covers back on it won't shock you, put some fix a flat in the tire until you can afford to get a new tire or maybe tire plus will patch it for cheap. If you can find the hole you can get a plug kit for pretty cheap. thx, i'm hoping it is just the tire seal. i put dyna beads in yesterday. i'll put air in it later and search for the leak.

i got it started with jumping the solenoid. thx for the tip! can i put the rubber covers back on without electrocuting myself while it is running? or should i just ride it like that and cover them when i stop?
edit: new problem: i have a flat tire... it never ends with this beast. lol

couple days ago my ignition switch stopped working. turned the key and had no power. i unhooked it and was able to kick start. well last night i couldn't get it running by kick starting and had to borrow my friends car to get to work. any way i can wire it myself so i can use the electric starter until my replacement arrives?
it is an atm50 with the 5 pin plug.

I think scooters are TRULY a breath of fresh air in a world that for the most part, will no longer pass "the smell test". i laughed... always enjoy your stories. wow, the days of $6,000 homes, i don't even think you can get an empty lot in detroit for that price anymore. back in the 80's i was working for my uncle remodeling homes. a friend of his bought a house in detroit for $5,000 which as a kid i thought was a great price but this home was a complete wreck. after expense's he didn't think his buddy was going to make any money. we lived in a $60,000 house (mid 80's value) so i didn't understand (until he explained property values) that a house in detroit wasn't worth much at that time. i bought a new red honda spree 50cc scooter in 1985 with the money i made working for him. it was the best 450 dollars i ever spent.

I've decided to halt my scooter shopping for the remainder of my waiting time on tax returns, and use what funds i have now to take a local motorcycle course for my M/1 license yeah, think you'll be much happier with a 150 than modding a 50. i need to complete that class also. been putting it off because i'll need to request days off and it is so expensive. forgot about tax returns... WOOT! that will make it easier. upon further google searching i discovered that florida does not require motorcycle insurance do you have a link to this info? i thought insurance was mandatory on anything over 50cc. currently looking at a Tomos Nitro 150cc witch was recommended to me on this thread as a 50cc scooter i think dom has the same scoot and has been very happy with it.

my 50mm bbk doesn't perform as well as i would like. i just lack the knowledge and experience to gain more power out of a 50cc. i do my best just to keep the thing running. little tip for you. if you right click the pic you want to post, then click copy image url. goto your post, move your cursor over the box titled insert image. click that box and right click/paste in the image url. hope i explained that well enough. you do it once and then it's easy.

The trip from south east florida to anywhere on the west coast will require speeds a 150 will be hard pressed to match. Even the back roads thru the gut of the state will require a steady 60-65 mph. you know i mapped it out a couple of months ago and didn't really think too much about the traffic speed. guess i figured the back roads would be 50mph max. looking at it again, it is about 4 1/2hr. trip (according to google) covering about 230 miles. that averages out to about 51mph but i don't know if google maps add time for red lights, etc. so yeah speed might be a small problem. i get ran over in my atm50 all the time, at least i'm use to it. time is my problem though (well money really). i really want to take this trip on 2 wheels and i don't see myself having enough for a 250 until the middle of april. cutting it too close imo if i'm going to make this trip in may. i just don't know how long it will take from the time i order until the time i can put plates on it. i'll get the 250 next year. i'm going to need money for spare parts also. spare belt, cdi, clutch, fuel/vacuum hose and whatever else i decide to bring, idk.
