friend from work let me ride his new 150cc taotao evo. my first thought was WOW it has so much power compared to my atm50. my second thought was how in the heck am i going to get anyone to buy my piece of junk scooter? lol i really had no idea it would be that much better. guess i expected acceleration to be about the same with increased speed... nope, not even close. took off like a rocket! i been wondering if i should skip the 150cc and save up for that 250cc but not after today. i'll be more than satisfied with a new 150cc scooter. i feel like a kid counting the days till christmas morning.

Do yourself a favor.... go test ride a 250. The power plant is soooo smooth and man, huge difference.... A little heavier bike so the ride is sooooo much nicer... try it.... You might skip the 150. Of course the 150's are way more fun, cheaper to mod and by and large easier to work on.... but, good gosh, the 250's are so smooth compared to the 150's.

I love my 150 huge difference in power and ride. I started with a 10 inch wheel 50cc to the 13 inch wheels way more comfortable and stable.

Do yourself a favor.... go test ride a 250. The power plant is soooo smooth and man, huge difference.... A little heavier bike so the ride is sooooo much nicer... try it.... You might skip the 150. Of course the 150's are way more fun, cheaper to mod and by and large easier to work on.... but, good gosh, the 250's are so smooth compared to the 150's. i'd <3 to get a 250 even without test riding one but i don't know if i can wait that long for a new scoot. it'd probably take me an extra 2 months savings to cover the price difference. i'm still nearly a month away from ordering the 150. i need to have it ready by May, preferably sooner so i can workout the bugs before i take my 500 mile round trip. just hope i don't end up stranded 100 miles from home on my new ride. mosquito repellent is #1 on my list, traveling to the west coast of Florida to visit family. last thing i need is a bunch of insect bites while trying to fix my ride in the middle of the everglades. lol

Two months vs years of riding comfort. The trip from south east florida to anywhere on the west coast will require speeds a 150 will be hard pressed to match. Even the back roads thru the gut of the state will require a steady 60-65 mph. Just my .02. I also think the gators are a bigger problem than bugs!

Even the back roads thru the gut of the state will require a steady 60-65 mph. you know i mapped it out a couple of months ago and didn't really think too much about the traffic speed. guess i figured the back roads would be 50mph max. looking at it again, it is about 4 1/2hr. trip (according to google) covering about 230 miles. that averages out to about 51mph but i don't know if google maps add time for red lights, etc. so yeah speed might be a small problem. i get ran over in my atm50 all the time, at least i'm use to it. time is my problem though (well money really). i really want to take this trip on 2 wheels and i don't see myself having enough for a 250 until the middle of april. cutting it too close imo if i'm going to make this trip in may. i just don't know how long it will take from the time i order until the time i can put plates on it. i'll get the 250 next year. i'm going to need money for spare parts also. spare belt, cdi, clutch, fuel/vacuum hose and whatever else i decide to bring, idk.

If you are on back roads, there is no prolbem with cruising at 50mph. There will be times you should pull to the side and let anyone backed up behind you pass, but that's just common courtesy. Be sure to pack a spare belt and a 12v impact wrench, along with your standard tools.

Ever heard of a CFMoto Glory ? It is liquid cooled instead of air , has EFI instead of a carb and have F&R disc brakes instead of drum brakes . Best part is it has a 2 year full warranty with unlimited mileage www.scootersus.com/cfmotoGLORY.htmlI have a CFMoto Echarm with EFI but it seems only the carbs are around unless you get lucky to find one with EFI . CFMoto engines are stronger than the standard GY6 , have a better CVT , 12 pole stator instead of 8 or 11 poles . I got a warning ticket for doing 72 MPH on my Echarm from a HP . Now the catch is a CFMoto dealer must do the first oil change at 250 miles for the warranty to be good . You can then change it yourself to avoid labor costs .

Having started with a GY6 150 six years ago, and finally getting a 250 liquid-cooled 250, I can REALLY understand how you feel.
Going from a 50 to a 150 is EXACTLY like you describe, AND going from the 150 to a 250 is just as big a difference. I couldn't afford a new 250, and dug up an old '07 Kymco in good shape. It still cost more than a new 150, but I'm very happy with it.
After 6 years riding a 150, I can tell you that you might be quite happy on one for several seasons, but eventually you'll try out someone's 250 or 300 and find the improvement as irresistible as you just found the 150 to be. My older 250 is an outdated, 2-valve, carbureted version somewhat similar to the 150 air-cooled scoots. However, it has at least 50% better acceleration and 30 mph faster top-end than my old 150. Newer ones now have 300cc 4-valve, fuel-injected engines that run like an older 650cc motorcycle!
There are also some fantastic deals out there on modern 200cc and larger scooters from Taiwan and Italy which probably compare well with my older 250, being able to ROAR up hills, and hit over 80mph... and cruise at 65mph or better. You MIGHT be able to find one of these new-generation "wonder-scooters" in the same price range as a good 150, and then you'd really be "well-mounted" for a number of seasons.
I absolutely understand how great you felt twisting that 150's ear! Just do plenty of homework and test-ride (and test-price) all your options before you buy, and you'll be happy camper for many seasons!
