How to know when to change drive belt and clutch? My scooter has the original belt and clutch on, when bought new. Got a little over 7000 miles on scooter today. I check the belt and clutch at least twice per year. It seems ok still, but my concern is when out on the road- is the belt just going to break, eventually leaving me stranded. Should the belt and clutch be changed before it snaps so I don't get stranded.. What are your thoughts?

well on a preventive side , I would check the rollers in the variator . I would clean it all up if the rollers show signs of wear replace them . grease the variator shaft . I would remove the clutch clean it up put fresh lube on the lube points , clean out the old grease from the needle bearing and sqush fresh grease into the bearing . remove the glazing from the bell and lightly sand the clutch pads . You can replace the belt and keep the old one as a spare .

I personally would change the belt or carry a spare with you and the tools to change it out in the field. As far as the Clutch is concerned if it's not slipping and the material on the pads is a nickel or greater thickness it is still good. If the material left on the pads is down to a DIME thickness change the pads and or get a new clutch. If you notice the Clutch is slipping it may just be that they pads are glazed and if there is enough material left just use some sandpaper to take the glaze off. Alleyoop

howdy, i'm gonna chime in where not welcome---lol
I would suggest that some of that question depends on how you ride. if you ride wide open throttle all the time and take off with enthusiasm that is going to change the answer. I personally ride with the intent of making it last as long as possible so I do ride longer without maintenance than do most. that applies also to brakes and other scooter systems. you can make them last or tear them up depending on how you ride.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Not that tranny Dave.
There is a wear spec on the belt you measure its width. No spec known? Order a new belt and check the difference...
