ever since reading this thread: itistheride.boards.net/thread/5197/valve-face-scaleand seeing buford's comment it got me thinking that i really need to replace the head. i did clean up the carbon when i installed my bbk but i have to say my valves didn't look much better than those pictured in that thread. i have no idea what size valves on my atm50. can you change the length of your valves??? lets say i were to buy a head with the wrong size valves, what would i need to make it work? would i need a different rocker arm? i just don't understand the difference between 64 and 69mm valves, other than the obvious.

does the electric start work? my instrument panel went dead last week and also lost power to starter. it was a loose wire connected to the fuse near the battery. check the fuse.

Once you have the header pipe bolted to the motor then attach the muffler. Alleyoop while you're waiting on the new gasket i would take it off and rebolt as stated above. bolting the header pipe first will/should make a big difference.

My battery is nested in a cloth bed to dampen vibration and inhibit shifting. Hope it doesn't catch fire. with it being on the bottom i doubt you'd have problems. the foam i used is covering a wire... thx for all the suggestions, i'm gonna rig something up later.

the connection on my fuse came loose recently partly because the wire is short but also because the battery moves around bumping against the fuse holder. does anyone use a bracket or something to wedge the battery so it doesn't move?
i extended the wire but before i closed the battery compartment i wedged a small piece of foam to keep the battery in place. after the fact i got a little concerned about fire. i'm not so sure it is a good idea to have foam near the battery. what would you use to keep the battery in place?

if you have a spare cdi on hand install it. i've had 2 cdi's die on me the exact same way, seemed like i was out of gas. i don't know how to test them other than trying a new one so you'll have to wait for someone else to respond.

connection was loose. i crimped the connector, turned the key and had power. it fired right up with the electric starter. only problem was when i came out of the store it was dead again. need a better clip, i guess.

ok, thx. that fuse was the first thing i attempted to check when this all happened but it was hard to get to. (short wire) didn't have another one so i didn't check it. when i got it to kick start i assumed the ignition switch was broke. i didn't know...

just installed a new ignition switch assuming that was the problem but still have no power. i can start it by jumping the solenoid but i have no power when i turn the key. what would cause this problem? probably time to invest in a multimeter?

FI or carb?

when i first got my scoot i told myself i would never buy another without EFI. i have little experience with fixing them if they fail though. on an old buick i had to replace the oxygen sensor. that was an easy repair but diagnosing the problem was a nightmare. at this point i've learned enough about carbs that i would be fine with getting another scoot with a carburetor. i don't know much about EFI on scooters so it is difficult for me to give you an informed opinion but as long as they are working then i would assume an EFI scooter would be better than a carb. good luck diagnosing the problem if it fails though.

I actually have a theory about the rise of personal automobiles and obesity being linked. i have a theory that high fructose corn syrup is linked to obesity. sure their is probably a hundred other factors but it's no secret that HFCS was rapidly introduced into the U.S. market in the late 70's. shortly after this time period this country saw a huge spike in obesity.
