just installed a new ignition switch assuming that was the problem but still have no power. i can start it by jumping the solenoid but i have no power when i turn the key. what would cause this problem? probably time to invest in a multimeter?

Check the FUSE coming off the RED THIN WIRE of your battery. If it is a TUBE type fuse they may look good but are bad. That Red thin wire feeds the IGNITION 12v then when you turn the KEY on it feeds the BLACK WIRE the 12v for any thing that needs juice. Alleyoop

Get a 12V Light Tester they are indispensable finding where you lost some DC voltage and are only a couple of bucks. Alleyoop

Yup..what he said..check that. If it was a bad keyswitch or kill wire issue..it would crank from jumping the solenoid..but not fire and roar to life.. Also if you hit the start button and hear a faint 'click' the solenoid could be bad. So when you 'jump' across the solenoid you are creating the contact to your starter.. A way to check your keyswitch is..turn the key to 'off' and remove key..unplug keyswitch..then kickstart the scooter..it it fires up it may be in the keyswitch wiring. But have to concur with Alley on this one.. Glenn

ok, thx. that fuse was the first thing i attempted to check when this all happened but it was hard to get to. (short wire) didn't have another one so i didn't check it. when i got it to kick start i assumed the ignition switch was broke. i didn't know...

connection was loose. i crimped the connector, turned the key and had power. it fired right up with the electric starter. only problem was when i came out of the store it was dead again. need a better clip, i guess.
