Hi guys. As my name states, I am completely lost, and I am a noob. This while problem started when I was going to change the tires on my two-year-old 50cc peace scooter. I have the same thing as you see here: www.peaceindustrygroup.com/50cc-moped-scooters/65-tpgs-810-50cc.htmlThe tires got changed out mostly uneventfully, and everything went back smoothly as well! My problem is, now the scooter is loud. I suspect it has something to do with a small round piece that looks like a washer but isn't. It's part of the exhaust, has to be. It's the same size as the piece that connects to the bike itself, and fits in the hole. SO. My question to you folks is: Have I just placed this wrong, OR is it something that needs to be replaced once it's removed? I put it back in place and the bike is pretty loud, which tells me it's not sealing. If it needs to be replaced, could you all tell me where to get this piece, please? A thousand thanks!

Try loosening all the bolts holding the exaust and see if you can wiggle it into a tighter fit at the exaust port. If not remove it and try again. ?

Those flange gaskets get squished so putting back an old one will not seal right and leak. Best is to get a new one and replace. Also always take the muffler off before bolting on the flange to the motor. Once you have the header pipe bolted to the motor then attach the muffler. Alleyoop You can get one here they ship fast: Scroll down on the page, www.scrappydogscooters.com/Replacement_Parts.html

Thank you both! How safe is it to ride the scooter the way it is until I get a new flange gasket?
It's my main method of transportation and I've been catching rides since it went down, was really hoping it'd just be an easy fix!
I ride about a mile and a half to work each day and that's it.

Let me ask, Is it backfiring when giving it throttle or when you let go of the throttle to slow down? That would be the only thing that could burn up your exhaust valve. If it is just loud no backfiring then it would be ok to ride it until you get a new gasket. Alleyoop

If it backfires on sudden throttle release you can ease off the throttle and it will not backfire maybe only when it is about to come down to idle. Alleyoop

Okie-doke. I'll check it out tomorrow.
All I did was crank it up and hear that it was loud as crap and then cut it off. I didn't know if it would hurt it to be the way it is, so I haven't even tried throttling it.
I'm fond of my scoot, lol, didn't want to hurt it.
Thank you all for your help. I ordered a new gasket, hopefully it'll come soon.
Y'all rock!

Once you have the header pipe bolted to the motor then attach the muffler. Alleyoop while you're waiting on the new gasket i would take it off and rebolt as stated above. bolting the header pipe first will/should make a big difference.

Running with an exhaust leak not only can be loud but you run lean . The pipe helps the exhaust and heat flow away from the engine . Leaking around the head can make it run too hot . A buddy of mine had a mishap and broke his muffler off . He got mad and broke the pipe so that only a stub was all he had . I warned him not to ride it until he gets a new exhaust or at least upjet as I gave him a jet kit . Well he ignored my warning and a month later POOF the exhaust valve head broke off of the stem and destroyed the piston , head and cylinder . He had to get a whole new piston kit as the parts were too bad to be fixed .
A buddy of mine has a lil 50 with a 2T pipe , the kind that curves forward from the rear but without a muffler . It has a nice deep tone , not really much louder than stock and does not sputter like a lean misfire .
Check around for a new exhaust as you may find a deal on Ebay for an aftermarket exhaust for about the same price as an OEM one . Many are made out of crappy pot metal that rots and often not weldable like real steel is .
You may get a citation if it is too loud as some cops are scooter haters . I put a racing pipe on my 2T and it made my ears ring at times . I could make people jump when I rode by . I put the stock pipe back on since it did have top end power but did not on bottom end and a neighbor paid me 20 bucks to do it too .
