My scooter currently has a bad battery, and since I have the kick start option working at the moment, I'm thinking of taking my time about purchasing a new battery. Are there any consequences to starting with the kickstart and driving with a bad/dead battery if for only a month? Just not sure if I should rush out and get a battery or wait for a bit and take care of other bills first.

My battery is charged, fuse replaced, and still not getting any power from the battery. The on dash clock won't even turn on. Everything inside looks clean and doesn't appear to have any corrosion. Any ideas on where to start with finding the problem on this one?

I've got a 50cc chinese scoot that I've been fixing up as a christmas gift, but the scoot starts up then shuts off. I've replaced numerous parts in it (due to poor parts in the scooter):
Fuel valve replaced, replaced carburetor, replaced ignition coil, replaced CDI, replaced the battery
The scooter now shuts on then shuts off. As the scooter shuts off, I notice the tail light flickering in sync with the engine dying, I'm not sure if this is a sign of an electrical problem or if this would be common with a fuel issue.
The scooter has 3300 km on it.
Thanks for any help!

I haven't done the valve adjustment yet. It was 82 out today and I had the problem occurring a few times while driving it. I did not have the throttle wide open and only went about 35-40 mph. When I closed the throttle, the bike did come back to life, then would begin hesitating about 1/4-1/2 mile later. This time the bike never shut off on me though, just hesitating, release throttle, come back to life.

Someone mentioned possibly having an overheating problem. Do these engines have something on them that shuts off the engine of it reaches a particular temperature?

Yes it did the exact same thing before the new carb. It's a 2014 TaoTao Palladin CY-150.

So I had this problem before and which eventually led to me changing out the carburetor since it eventually would not run. (See Priming the Carburetor on page 2 or 3).
With a brand new carburetor, the scooter is finally firing up and running. However, the original problem is still happening. The scooter dies at the exact same locations on a road going about 45-50 mph. However, at night time, there is no problem at all. The scooter only dies when I am riding. I can put the scooter on the center kickstand and rev it all I want without any issue (except for one time my spark plug boot came loose, of which I thought may have been the issue, but apparently not). Here's a few things I've noticed:
1.) Adjusting the carb is quite difficult. I can hear no changes in the RPMs as I turn the Air/Fuel mixture screw. However, I do notice at times that the rear tire begins moving when changing the ratio. I went by the speed of the wheel when adjusting. 2.) I've rode the scooter on the same road with different settings (Air/Fuel). The scooter continues to die in the exact locations. 3.) The new carburetor starts up much better after shutdown than the older one, which used to take 10-15 seconds of cranking. 4.) After the first shutdown yesterday, I reduced my speed to 40 mph. I noticed it having hesitations around the same point it usually does. It eventually caught back up and went a little further before it shutdown again. 5.) I currently have the carburetor set around 2 full turns counter clockwise from being all the way in. I feel as if the scooter is going through gas quicker than it should, however thats hard to tell since I've not been able to get through a tank of gas without any issues yet. 6.) I have searched and searched for vacuum leaks, but have found nothing.
I was wondering if any of you had any input in this. I'm concerned that whatever issue I am having originally screwed my initial carburetor. I didn't dig into it since the screw heads were cut off from the factory and just replaced it with a new one. I am changing the CDI box and Ignition coil as soon as they come in the mail. Could this be a spark issue? I have noticed a rust spot on the spark plug boot, and it did come loose while revving up the engine. The spark plug is also difficult to actually get it to fit tightly on the plug. I'm just not sure if the temperature would have much of an impact on that though (although there is more moisture in the air at night as I come out to a scooter with condensation gathered on it). Second thought was valve adjustment and perhaps the pulses were not getting enough fuel to the carb bowls, but i'm not sure if I would see an increase in gas consumption then (If I am having an increase that is).

I'm getting ready to replace the air filter assembly with a uni airfilter. However I noticed that the air filter box has other hoses connected to it. Such as a hose that goes to the front of the engine and another that goes down to the valves beside the back tire. I was wondering what I need to do about these hoses since the filter only connects to the carburetor?

Here is the videos of it running. Just notice that the first video was with me just going out and starting it up. You'll notice that AFTER this one, I put fuel directly into the carburetor. It takes awhile for the scooter to start up with fuel injected directly into the carb, so it seems like fuel is not in the lines or something which could confuse you. I think it is flooding the plug or something, but not sure.
This is the first start up. All I did was plug in the battery, removed gas cap, and started her up. (Above video)
This is the second video, after filling the carburetor 1/4 full. It acts like there is no fuel in the lines when I start it up this time, even though it initially started just fine earlier?
I'm probably going to replace the carburetor this weekend anyways since I noticed the screw heads had been cut off from the bottom of the carb. Replacement was only $24 on amazon and I'm going to change the jets to a 125 for the Uni Filter. Also putting on the Gates Powerlink belt, Naraku Adjustable CDI, Naraku Ignition coil as well.

Yea I'll try to take a video of it later today. I need to run the battery up to autozone for recharging. Someone suggested to me that it could be the choke.

Okay. I redid the carb adjustment by turning it all the way in then 2.25 turns counterclockwise. I put some fuel directly into the carburetor and after a little while of starting, she fired up. When she fired up, she started revving up and started turning the wheel like she was off to the races. After a few seconds she would slow down then die. Sometimes she would continue running, but would have some hesitations until she died. Does this say anything about the adjusting? I pulled the fuel line off the carb just to make sure she was getting flowi and gas was coming out. I even tried to loosen up the idle screw and she seems to run the same regardless.

When the scooter shuts down, I've noticed a buzzing noise. Exactly like air escaping from a tight space. It seems to be coming from around the thing I included a pic of the object I seem to be hearing the noise from. Is this normal for the bike to do during shut off? I'll try and redo the air/fuel mixture. Only thing is, the start up and shut off thing began before I even got the bronze cap off the carburetor to touch the air/fuel mixture screw.

So now the issue has changed a bit. Now I can't get the scooter to start regardless of the weather. It was doing it's normal thing when riding it to work, dying, restarting, etc., However, now it will start up then immediately die. I've played around with the air/fuel mixture to try and see if that would get to work, but I get the same result regardless of where the screw is positioned. I looked at the spark plug...it showed obvious signs of getting way to much fuel as it was almost entirely black. I put the old chinese plug back in to see if i could get the thing figured out, but nothing. Sometimes it will stay on for a few seconds, but the engine kinda starts dying then picks up repeatedly until it dies off. I'm thinking it may be a problem with the carburetor. Any thoughts?

I'm going to be putting in the UNI airfilter, and upgraded CDI and ignition cool next weekend. I was wondering if you guys had any advice on whether I should go ahead and just get a better carburetor as well since I'll need to take it off anyway in order to rejet and remove the air/fuel mixture cap. Are the chinese OEM carbs worth keeping on?
