Evolution of the exhaust: This blue junk fell apart terribly after only 1,000 miles. The rivets leaked right out of the box. I suspect having the one muffler support at the end of the can may have let the can to pipe union flex and vibrate more than it should have, not helping the fact that it was cheap junk. And yes I had to cut both mounting brackets off the head pipe, and heat it with a torch some to bend it to clear the fan cover and swingarm!!! I happened to notice that some 2-stoke pipe silencers would bolt right up to the flange on my head pipe... but it was way too loud. lol... This next cheap muffler seems like much better quality - it's welded on the bottom, has many many more threads and a thicker base to bolt to the head pipe. Also the thickness and welding on the outlet cap and end cap seem much more sturdy. I went ape with the bracketry this time, and its still like new after 1,000+ miles. Sounds great too! I have also added one more piece to the pipe-end support bracket to make a triangle shape, bracing it to the main bar so it can't drift down even if the hardware loosens up a little.

Buying this was the best thing I ever did - a broken 50cc fell in my lap 3 seasons ago, with help from the forums I fixed it up, played with it a little and had a blast for a season of puttering around holding up traffic. Next season I couldn't resist the ugly 150 I found in craigslist for $500. It had been a yard toy most of its 4 year life, so the paint and most of the lenses are pretty faded. The front plastics are starting to crack chip and flake, a nice piece is broke from the rear side panel, but it ran. Everything worked. At first i was disappointed it was a huge frame 150, until I rode it. It only got to 45mph but I wasn't surprised. After a good PDI and a tune up, she was going 55 again. last season she got your standard bolt-on mods and some accessories (pics to come) and this season has been all trouble free riding enjoyment, so far Its a shame scooters get such a bad rap, because If people only knew how fun, convenient and economical they are, our streets would look more like those in Asia and Europe, full of 'motorbikes' ! I know this is a little long, but hopefully it will give you a better overview concerning my own lengthy experience before, and after the exhaust mod. I believe I had the engine running as good as possible with the stock exhaust, and, now it runs even better. These scoots are all different, and what works on one may not work on another, but anything that works once is worth a second try...I had a similar experience - and strongly agree with meticulous needle tuning. It wasn't until I started messing with the needle that I got the most out of my mods, even before the pipe. I did wind up up-jetting after the pipe, from a 108 to a 114, and holy smokes! It was a whole new animal. Only thing different was when I tried almost every roller/slider mass between 8g and 12g, and never lost any top speed. 8g sliders gave me wicked acceleration, top speed was still 60ish but RPMs were WAY too high at top speed. 10g sliders left me sad, so I settled for 9g equivalent. Of course, between my larger frame and my larger self, I'm permanently riding 2-up compared to most other 150's, and I live in the 'Hill City'...

look ma, I can post graphs too! Sure, fuel going through to idle circuit may still flow at WOT, but it is incredibly insignificant compared to what flows though the main jet. Turning that screw is NOT going to make it run better if it needs more fuel at WOT due to mods.

Ah, I forgot you were talking about a good exhaust system... lol. It probably wouldn't need one if the head & flange mated up perfect and the mounts for the muffler brackets lined up perfect, but I'd have one ready in case you need it.

With the NCY kit, you also get a performance clutch bell, something you definitely want to go with a performance clutch. Also, a performance clutch is intended to take more abuse than a stock one, I think I'll pass on the online vendors cheap mystery performance clutch. Also in the NCY kit, you get a performance torque sheave. I can't promise it will do anything for you that you'll notice, but you get one. The kit also comes with an outer drive face made to go with the performance variator you get, and an insulator for the torque spring - something that helps quiet the resonant vibrations you get from a stiffer torque spring.
Can you tell I bought an NCY kit? lol. I bought CVT parts one piece at a time for my 50cc, and I'm just as good of a deal hunter as anyone. I wished I had just bought the kit for it... which is why I did for the 150cc.

Adjusting the screw doesn't affect fuel for WOT, and could be why the plug is dark. I would entertain the idea that it needs more fuel anyway, just to see what happens. Try the washer/o-ring under the needle trick at least, if you don't want to get a carb you can adjust. Survey says you need a larger jet to run goodies, and the only way to be 100% sure is to experiment.

Mine wandered bad from a split intake boot... check out that rubber and adjust the valves too, if you haven't

An 'E' clip does sort of look like 2/3 of a washer, and lot of carb insides are brass (maybe just brass plated?) which look sort of like gold. If it came loose, it's compromised and I would not trust it! I had 3 of them break, oddly close to another, but this was during a time I was shuffling the clip around to test-n-tune after a few rounds of modifications... I had no luck finding a 4th clip that fit well enough to satisfy me at Lowes or in the huge assortment at my work (its very small and metric) so I wound up putting in a tiny hairpin style clip instead, and its been working great.

yep, sounds like how mine ran when the needle clip broke and dropped the needle all the way down
