Good performance clutches hardly resemble a factory clutch...
I put stronger springs in my factory clutch and guess what? it broke very soon after, along with many other folks' Ive read about on the forums.

A performance clutch does not engage until you build up more rpms than a stock one. This gives you quicker take-off since the engine is revving a little higher. No other modifications are needed, but its a good idea to get a performance clutch bell to go with it. Usually you can find the two together.
One downside, if you find yourself in stop-and-go traffic a lot, it makes for a lurch-y movement when you are just trying to crawl along. I dont mind it ;D

Was the needle still down in the jet when you pulled the slide and diaphragm out? If so, then there is a clip missing. If not, will the needle stay in the washer if you put the pointy end in? If so, that may be how it goes in, and the piece on the spring holds it down. This would not explain the initial problem though...

hmm... looks like that is just a washer. Either there was a clip and it's gone now, or maybe you drop the needle into the washer, then drop them into the slide? Will it go that way? A lot of needles Ive pulled out have been slightly different, but there was always something holding the needle down as well as up. Either a tab that screws in place, or a plastic cap that the spring holds down... Is there any other piece involved with yours, like maybe a piece attached to the bottom of your spring?

dang... I made that mistake with my 50cc, lol
Well, you could have a cracked intake manifold/boot, the piece between the carb and the head. Wiggle the carb around some while its running to see if it makes it run funny. Any other vacuum leak could do this, check all the hoses if you haven't already. Make sure the nuts holding the intake manifold down are snug too.
Its a long shot, but i actually found a mudfly nest clogging the 50cc muffler... mine wouldn't run at all at first, but you could just have partial blockage. You could drop the pipe down a little and make a test run...

BTW, I was assuming that my scooter tires had at least chords under the tread... Ive seen people riding motorcycles with the rear tire worn through to chords, so I planned to quit riding on it if they showed before the tires arrived. (this is very unsafe) Well, I never saw any, but if there are chords in there... its a very thin layer... Once I got the tire off and saw/felt just how thin the rubber touching the road was (VERY thin) it make my butthole pucker up big time. The moral of the story... don't ride on slick tires

Are you tinkering with it with the airbox off?? If so, put it back on, and enjoy the ride

I just replaced my rear tire, it was slick slick in the center, at 5,500miles (assuming it was original). The front still had lots of tread, but was starting to dry crack a little so I replaced it. I couldn't imagine one stock and one performance tire working well together anyway!

Ah - I have a 114 in now but was going to go to 115. 115 seems to be the norm for 150's with intake/exhaust. I have my needle most of the way up so it would seem logical to go up a step in jet size. Did you notice much difference with the porting work to the carb? If i can squeeze a little more power out of this thing I'd consider doing the same ;D

Yup! I used the blue ones in the attached pic. How does yours run with the 120 jet??? Is yours a 'P' motor?? I've been wondering if I should go up in size just to see... though I'd think I'd have blown up long ago if I was that lean!! Attachments:

Mine does too, but it starts up great - best to check it with a meter right at the battery posts. Good chance the battery is weak, especially if it is more than 2 years old. You could try removing and cleaning the connections for the fat wires at the battery, the solenoid, and wherever your case ground is (the fat one). Always possible the starter is going bad too, draining more juice than usual.
