I had a similar problem on an old 86 Elite. It may be due to build up on the clutch or variator (drive puller) that it causing low speed belt slippage. Do you ever hear a squeal or feel it kind of spinning and not gripping? If it is that, the way I fixed it is to "resurface" the clutch and variator. You basically sand away residue on both and sand lightly into the metal. This gives the belt more traction and should fix the slipping. Don't do this if it isn't the problem. You can check to see if you have build up by taking off the clutch and variator and looking inside them. It should look like wax on them. Good luck

I had a broken petcock in my first scooter. It was pulling gas through the engine and into the exhaust. I would fill the tank and the next morning it wouldn't start, the gas gauge would be near E and when I would tilt the bike upwards, all the gas would pour out of the exhaust pipe. It was a nightmare so I am sure the petcock could have messed with yours too. I just wanted to say that I am glad you got it working and commend you on all the pictures you included. It sure helps diagnose the problem quickly.

The box that I got with my first scooter matched well, but about 2 weeks into using it, it wouldn't latch anymore because the metal lock component was so poorly attached. The latch on it would not hook under the bar to keep it closed. I had to use a bungie cord to keep it shut. Just be careful how much money you save or all your stuff will end up on the road.

The Honda Elite I am almost done fixing up is all stock, just over 17k miles with original variator, clutch, and it was running the original belt. My dad and I just took apart the CVT tonight to resurface the clutch as I was getting a really bad squeal when starting from a dead stop. We got a lot of debris cleaned off with brake parts cleaner and then lightly sanded some tough spots out. I have gone for a test drive with the changes, but my stock CVT seems to be holding strong.

If there it shows no oil, I would be safe and assume that it is pretty empty. I would add more or do a full change. Doesn't cost much in these scooters and could potentially save the engine if there really is no oil.

My engine did a similar thing at low speeds where the connector for the fuel line to the carb fell off. Could always try there, but you probably would have noticed gas on the ground.

Happy that you were able to sell it (sometimes they are hard to sell), and to someone that seems like they will take care of it. Come back if you can!

Honestly, who pulls out into traffic that slowly and that wide of a turn with a bus right there? No excuse for not seeing the motorcyclist, but that driver is a danger to any motorist if that is how he makes decisions and executes them.

The funny part in my state (Indiana), even the DMV doesn't know the laws when registering 150cc scooters. They all looked at me when I brought in the paperwork like...why are you paying for this? Then the police had to inspect the VIN and they were so confused at what they were doing there. I could probably have gotten away with just driving it and calling it a day. On the brightside of playing by the rules, I now have my motorcycle license and don't feel like a criminal. Also, my first scooter was stolen and if I hadn't insured it, I would be out the $1000 they paid me for it.

I am assuming it is the standard chinese GY6 cvt you are working on. Are you stuck with the belt on the front but can't get the belt on the clutch or stuck getting the variator off and the belt is not on at all?

To customize it a little from original and make it look a little snazzy, I am going to replace the torn and worn seat cover (hard to tell in the pictures) with a new one in black and then paint a trunk gloss black to match. More work and pics to follow in the next few weeks.

Wish I knew something helpful. The electrical systems to me are just crazy hard to figure out. Good luck

Yes Spandi, British racing green with white roof and white racing stripes. And I wasn't even born in '86 so I wouldn't have to worry about running into myself back then if I did hit !
