Hey everyone. I picked up my 1986 Honda Elite Deluxe 150 the other day and have been working on it to make it run and look great. I got it in pretty rough shape, having been sitting for a few years (and being 27 years old). I took off all the body panels and started getting familiar with part placement. I cleaned out years of dirt, a little rust, and check all the major maintenance parts. Changed the coolant, oil, sparkplug. Had to connect the air filter hose which was not on the carb and set the idle but I still think it needs a little adjustment. Also, a shock to me was that the screws were really tight on everything, most likely indicating it has never been worked on. I guess that is to be expected when the guy who owns it is 70 years old. I found that the thermometer cable was not attached so the radiator was not turning on and cycling.
Sadly, I put a replacement belt on in the CVT because the bike has 16k miles and my father went off to check out the bike, and it got all chewed up. We had to methodically untangle tons of metallic strands from the belt around the clutch. I bought the part from an online parts dealer who indicated it was the right one. I think it was probably right, but it was either defective or my dad ran it too hard without breaking it in. We checked the variator and clutch for damage and they seemed fine. Hopefully we can get a new belt and not run into it again with just being a little more careful. Anyways, I had to run back to my college town for work and forgot to bring pictures. But maybe once I get them I can update this thread or start a new one.
Cheers

Thanks, going to look for the right belt from a higher quality brand today at local stores now that I know the number.

I was unable to really cross reference the belt since Honda is really secretive in their belt numbers so that you have to buy their parts (smart business move). I bought a Honda belt from an online dealer costing me $ with shipping which I think is steep, but it is a guaranteed fit (which it was). I am getting pretty good at disassembling the paneling and some components of this scooter after cleaning everything. Took just a few minutes to get the side panel off and replace the belt. The new belt works well and doesn't slip like the old one. The only problem I am having now is that the belt still squeals when starting from a dead stop at a strong throttle. I have read a lot of stuff and found that this is due to "glazing" of the clutch. Now to take off the clutch, clean it with a solvent, and sand it a little bit to help grip the belt. I also was able to take some pics after cleaning all the body panels and trying to make it shine. Hope you like it. P.S. I am stuck between a few names for the scooter: Carmen, Phoenix, and Mcfly (As in Marty Mcfly). Weigh in with your opinion!

Here are a few pictures of the scooter: 1986 Honda Elite Deluxe 150cc This is the step through of the scooter with my father's 1968 Morris "Mini" Cooper S that we bought in Australia and brought back to the states.

I had a 125 elite (in Ruby red too) waaaay back when. McFly sounds cool...Is it not a Time machine of sorts? (just remember to keep the flux capacitor fully charged at all times.}

Nice scoot. It always makes me happy to see someone put an old bike back on the road and use it the way they were meant to be used. You did a great job cleaning her up. I'm not good with naming bikes I always just call mine whatever the manufacturer did or a variation there of. So I would call yours the Honda. If I hade 2 Hondas I might call it the Elite. Guess I'm kind of boring.
Mini is certainly cool and that is my favorite paint color for sure.

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]Yep, Right hand drive and no seat belts required. It does have seat belts added because my dad is no idiot. That car has a lot of my childhood memories, moving to Australia for 2 years and then bringing the car back to the states with us as a memento. It needs the radiator fixed but it is a blast.
My brother-in-law came up with Mcfly and I thought it was a great name. May stick with that.

Nice Mini (British Racing Green?) Btw, you do know if you get the scoot up to mph, you'll end up back in '86! ....And you'll probably find yourself stuck in traffic due to a Madonna concert.

Yes Spandi, British racing green with white roof and white racing stripes. And I wasn't even born in '86 so I wouldn't have to worry about running into myself back then if I did hit !

Well just don't bump into any family members (never know what could happen) The other part was a little inside joke, because it actually happened to me in back in 1985 outside Columbia Maryland, it was about 8 o'clock at night and there I sat on my red Elite 125 wondering, was there an accident? Truck over turned? Fire? So I asked some teenagers in the car next to me what's going on? Answer: "Madonna concert"

To customize it a little from original and make it look a little snazzy, I am going to replace the torn and worn seat cover (hard to tell in the pictures) with a new one in black and then paint a trunk gloss black to match. More work and pics to follow in the next few weeks.

I think it'll look really sharp with the seat in black. Sounds like you're gonna' have great fun with it! As for names, I'm like scootn'. All our vehicles get named from model or make. Hence my Piaggio is Peej. I'll go join scootn' on the boring bench now. But McFly doesn't sound bad. Or The Elite. Or maybe even "The Elite One". That's what I would probably end up calling it, considering we named Mom's first Sable "The Sacred Sable" (we weren't allowed to consume food or drink in it) >'Kat

I also got my '86 Honda Elite 150 Deluxe @ 16K miles(16.8)in 2013! I have since turned it over to 17K, almost a month later. I rode it out of the sellers drive way, on the highway/freeway in the rain! The best part was the ride home through The Avenue of The Giants! Seller was asking $600 on craigslist, but i got him down to $450.cash . It even came with a DOT older style helmet, a pair of safety glasses, ' Elite service manual, extra NEW belt, NEW headlamp and trunk(installed). Painted all flat-black (originally metallic blue).
The last time I rode it was nearly a week ago, it makes me so I about what happened.
I have read that these CH150D have the common GY6 Japanese engine. Which relieves me to know there are aftermarket performance parts available.
