Thinking about getting a 150 for my next purchase. I dont want to have to get a special license or get insurance etc.
I dont need to go faster than my 50, I only want reserve power "just in case". My thinking is if i dont need this stuff for my 50 cc going 40 mph, I dont need it going 40 on a 150. Id rather not have to stress a motor to go 40 WOT all the time either.
The only way to tell a 50 from a 150 is the front tin plate right? What if its not there or what if someone switched them?

removing or changing the vin is probably illegal.
Putting a 150 motor into your 50cc chassis is the more legal option.

The more legal option is to take the course, get your endorsement and insure the thing. It doesn't cost that much.
Play by the rules in the long run its easier.

You get into an incident then the other guys lawyers along with the police will be all over you. If you live at your parents home or if your mail is still being delivered there then they can be held liable for paying all the damages or making up the difference between what you are able to pay and what the court awards the other party. They could hit a tree avoiding you and end up totalling a luxury car or end up having quality of life issues that command a high amount of restitution and if uninsured or if you don't carry enough insurance then your family could be sued for their home and any tangable assets they posses.
My daughter was hit by a large SUV while waiting in her small car to make a left turn and since she was in the left turn lane it is an automatic at fault here in Florida and many other states. One passenger claimed quality of life issues and cleaned out her insurance policy which is seperate from mine and since her mailing address was at my home they then sued me and cleaned out the max limit on my insurance. Thankfully they were satisfied and stopped there. This person could have cleaned me out completely taking the max of my insurance, home, car, etc, etc. They more likely would have gone after more than just my insurance if my daughter was uninsured.
Even if you put a 150 in you 50cc bike or even a big block kit you are still on the hook for having a proper license and insurance.
You play by the rules then you can wave and be on good terms with the police and will have no worries if they come over to chat with you.

A BBK is already over 49cc and if something happens and the investigate it,,alot of guys will be in big trouble...so I guess a BBK wouldn't be a good suggestion either for you...

Being on good terms and well known to the police as a nice person is a wonderfull place to be. I once had the local police where I lived up North track me down for being nice just so they could thank me. They had even purchased a raffle ticket in my name for financially helping an officer who was in need of medical assistance and I ended up winning the raffle. The prize was nice item made by a local craftsman and worth much more that its monetary value to me (the item was not mega-bucks to say the least but very nicely done).
It surprised me a bit because I didn't really think that I had done that much. They were a really great bunch of guys.

Redroush I feel the same as you the speed limit here in town is 35 at the highest I go get cigeretts and it20 miles away on a back road its 55 on it
Thats why I put the 80ccBBK on mine makes pulling out into traffic alot easyer when I go the back road I run approx 45to 50 on it
I dont have any ins,regestration nothing on it and just putting the 80cc BBK made a world of differance and the way the speed limit is I dont need any more power than I got it gets up and gos when needed

im getting a 150cc and gonna mod it my 50 goes fast probably as fast as a 150 but i want plates so i have no restriction like cant go over 30 mph hard to go under 30 on my scoot  do it right roush i seen some of your others posts you can afford it ,im gonna do it all legal plates insurance and all |

The funny part in my state (Indiana), even the DMV doesn't know the laws when registering 150cc scooters. They all looked at me when I brought in the paperwork like...why are you paying for this? Then the police had to inspect the VIN and they were so confused at what they were doing there. I could probably have gotten away with just driving it and calling it a day. On the brightside of playing by the rules, I now have my motorcycle license and don't feel like a criminal. Also, my first scooter was stolen and if I hadn't insured it, I would be out the $1000 they paid me for it.

We can all have our personal feelings however illegal is illegal.
When you are riding unlawfully you open yourself up to a lot of grief which can ruin you and your family financially.
Do it right and stay in the boundaries provided by law and you will be better off n the long run.
We can rationalize many things however it still does not make it the correct thing to do.
