I just received my new gate's belt today and it looks noticeably lighter and thinner than the original so called junk belt,,anybody ever notice this,,or maybe the gates belt i got is a fake, both are marked 835-20-30 I'm hoping even though the gates is lighter it will be stronger!! Here is the one I bought... www.ebay.com/itm/220723216912?ssPageName=STRk Thanks Tom

My gates power link was heavier, stronger, and wider than my stock chinese belt Maybe that's just because I have a 1p39qmb though. I ordered mine from newegg.com

Your gates should say powerlink right on it. I always by the gates kevlar they last much longer. I buy the pl30708. Idf you got a plain gates it should say gates on it.

Kevlar belts are a mixed bag. They may last a bit longer but can really chew up your drive faces causing them to groove which then leads to driveline vibrations that can destroy exhausts and gearboxes. The Permium PowerLink without the Kevlar is better for your bike and easier on the bank. The Kevlar belts when they shred are also more prone to wrapping and locking up your clutch along with the rear wheel leading to a crash.

Ive never had that issue nor have i heard anyone else complain about the kevlar belt. I use a 2000 rpm main clutch spring and if i used a regular belt it wouldnt last long. Dont be worried about buying a gates ke :Dvlar. The kvlar has nothing to do with a belt wraping around the clutch. You have a better chance of a regular belt breaking and wrapping around the clutch. A regular belt will break much e :Dasier than a kevlar. If your kevlar belt is shreding you eithr ran it way to long or have a problem woth your cvt. The only thing a gates kevlar belt is prone to do is be very reliable and last long

Yes,,its the one in the link,,not a Kevlar though,,but it looks lighter and thinner than the junk china belt,,was just wondering. It rides and operates very smoothly too.

Kevlar belts can in fact damage the drive faces. Gates themselves makes this same recommendation regarding their own belts as well. YMMV. Matt

The only thing a gates kevlar belt is prone to do is be very reliable and last long Just have to get hot and they will snap which here in the South it does quite often. The Kevlar just chewes through the soft aluminum drive faces too and I have seen it cut grooves over 1/8 inch deep in the drive faces in less than 2,000 miles. When the Kevlar starts to fray in starts wrapping around things and can jamb up a clutch and put you down. Local dealer won't sell them anymore due to this. If you are only a seasonal recreational rider it may take you some years to see this however if you commute 360 days a year on you bike in a Southern climate you will more than likely have an event.

My 5-year-old Xingyue 150 came with the same belt you just got. Since it came with it from the Chinese factory, I truly don't know if it's a REAL Gates, or a fake... But, it's 5 seasons old, with 3,500 miles on it and it's still in very good condition, and sheds very little residue in the CVT housing. So... I'd give it an A++ rating based on a pretty long "test".
Hope this helps,
Leo in Texas

Been using gates kevlar for 2.5 yrs and never snapped one or never made any crazy grooves. Maybe if you have a cheap variator and drive face. I know this info is being way over exagerated. I am speaking from being a kevlar user.

Lots of fakes on the interweb, especially EBay-China and then general EBay, in that order. Need to choose your suppliers carefully, or make a trial-run-purchase from a vendor carefully. Me personally, I will always assume that belts being shipped from EBay-China are only generic and fake styles only. Do I buy from EBay-China suppliers? Absolutely, but I will always analyze if the price difference and risk is worthed the try.

I bought my powerlink belt from Matt (partsforscooters). Ya, Ya i know they are not the cheapest but i worked for Gates for almost 2 years and i can tell the real deal from the fake knock-off's and it's not easy to tell at first glance.
PFS has the real deal (i looked up the date code and it was ran by linda and don - line 2 - 3ed shift) and the price justifies peace of mind.
