I'm curious on why the hate?
Whenever I read a scooter review I see the comments emphasizing that they should buy a REAL bike. Scooter isn't a bike?

I know a few motorcyclists and all of them think I need to "save up to buy a REAL bike". They say "if I can't go 55mph in a certain amount of time" then they don't want the cycle.
I think this comes from a lack of understanding of how scooters work. I calculated that I should be able to go up to 51mph on my 82cc bbk and that's plenty fast enough for me. A 150cc could reach 55mph with ease. Maybe it's just some kind of attempt at justifying their own purchase of thousands of dollars when you can just get a scooter for a fraction of the price.
When I first got my scooter I asked a harley rider for help working on it (before I joined this forum) and he told me he had no idea about the first thing about working on scooters. This shows me that there is a complete lack of understanding on the "shifters'" part.
Still... Every other motorcyclist I see on the road waves to me or gives me a fist of solidarity, and I wave right back. ;D

Wait I ride a scooter and I shift it... My friends that ride do give me a hard time usually when I'm at their house wrenching on their bike...

Don't forget, some hate within the group if you don't ride what they ride. I don't get waves from most Harley riders, some BMW and Goldwing riders as well.
Not sure what the problem is, ego maybe? Since I didn't spend nearly as much money on my Guzzi, maybe they feel cheated? Who knows? I really stopped caring. I wave at anyone on 2 wheels, if they wave back, fine. If not, no skin off my back.
I let my riding skills do the talking, and when a squid on a 150hp crotch rocket can't keep up with my 600lb "cruiser" in the twisties, that says more than anything.
Ride what you want, enjoy the ride, and don't worry about the haters, they aren't worth your time or energy.

I haven't encountered hate. But then I also haven't really gone anywhere with any groups.
Most motorcyclists wave to me. Most scooterists don't.
My Harley-friend is envious of my scoot's nimbleness. The guy at Panera's I think got a scooter because of me--usually rides a motorcycle, but a few months after talking with me all about my scoot, he showed up on his own scoot.
There's a group of riders with the Am Legion up the street. He was still thrilled when I told him I have a scooter not a motorcycle. Said nobody cares, two wheels are two wheels and I'm more than welcome to join their rides. I'm hoping to this summer.

Some feel threatened by them. I ride with the cruiser crowd on occasion and find that many have trouble keeping up with a 250cc scooter.

It's because they haven't ridden a scooter.... Or their too insecure to admit that scooters are a freakin' blast. I ride both and have just as much fun on my scooter as I have on my motorcycle (sometimes more). Folks that mock scooters are "inexperienced" or douchebags (maybe both).

I would say also that it is a "group" thing...
When I had a nissan maxima, most people from the forum would always bash any other brand basically.. Same was with the forum for my Golf GTI..
It was also, when I had a R6, the people bashed almost any other type of motorcycle or car.. I even remember criticism towards bigger better motorcycles..
With that being said, I think its all in the persons head.. some have it filled with .. and other are more relaxed minded..

the only difference in the two, gearbox or cvt is heat loss. Gears are better if you want the utmost mpg. CVT waste 12% of the heat and is shows up at the pump.
The only other difference is scale.
IMO the CTV is a step forward in the evolution of transportation. Most Harley riders in general use a more primitive parts of the brain and it is no wonder that these one sided arguments arise but in the big picture it is all the same,
The balance in such an argument senero can be balance by applying the golden ratio. After factoring in the life component. with get the Fibonacci sequence.
So it only matter in time but time changes so the argument doesn't stand the test of time. So it nulls out. Maybe. Maybe not,!!!
So the correct answer is their both right and wrong = same thing So what is left is 1 thing, You figure out what that is, That's the real question.

I stopped in for gas when i had my xpeed 250. A patch wearing gang surrounded me at the pump to ask questions. They were really cool. Even invited me to roll but they were getting on the interstate. They told me my scoot was cool.

Around here I get occasional waves and horn taps from other scooter riders, but rarely from conventional motorcycle riders. They don't show any hostility, but we just kind of co exist.

There are to camps when it come to shifting. One is that shifting is a means to and end its what you do to get from point A to point B. Two is shifting is an end all in to its self. I am in the first camp I was running everything with a clutch on the farm by the time I was 9 years old. I have driven everything right up to 18 wheelers. For the life of me I cant understand why, some folks think a simple skill makes them better than some one else
