I got my Honda out of storage and I've been trying to get it ready to ride. I'm having a problem where it will start, but it will only run for 30 seconds or so and start to sputter out, unless I shake the bike, then it will run for another 30 seconds and I'll have to shake it again. It's acting like a piece of debris is blocking a fuel passage, but I've taken the carb apart and cleaned it really good, and I don't think there is debris in my fuel tank. Once I get on it and start riding, I'ts a little better, but when I stop at lights, I need to keep shaking the bike to keep it running.

The piston that got cooked was a 70cc that the previous owner had put on, but the carb is original with non-replaceable jets. I had a stock 50cc piston and cylinder that are in fair condition that I put on until I can afford a new BBK, intake manifold, and new carburetor. Its running now, but I do miss the acceleration that I had with the BBK!

I finally did a compression check and I was only getting 40psi. I took the top end apart and my piston is fried to a crunchy crisp! There are also deep gouges on both the piston and the cylinder, and both rings are seized in their grooves. Looks like it's time for a rebuild. I've always used good oil, but I think the big bore and the higher flow exhaust were just too much for the stock jetting in the carb and it was running too lean for too long.

My NC50 has been sitting for about three weeks and it won't start. I've put fresh fuel in it, premixed 32:1. It's getting fuel, air, spark, and compression, but the most it will do is occasionally backfire. I've tried starting fluid and it does no good.

My injector pump on my Honda went out so I have been premixing. When I refuel and mix my oil, I always end up stalling out because I get almost pure oil in the fuel line. I have to remove the fuel line from the carb and drain out that little bit of oil before it will run again. After I put in the proper amount of oil, I make sure it is mixed up well before opening the fuel shutoff valve, but it still happens every time. I'm using Klotz Super Techniplate oil for premixing and I'm running a 40:1 ratio.

A few times I did have the engine bog down and die after climbing a long hill. It happened only when I was using really cheap crappy oil. I'm using synthetic oil now and I haven't had that happen. In fact, I just did a 30 mile round trip at or near WOT the whole way including some big hills and the bike didn't even sputter or bog once. I don't know a lot about the quality differences in 2 stroke oil. Can low quality oil cause a soft seize, even if it's mixed properly?

This may be kind of a stupid question, but what are the signs of a soft seize? Does the engine just bog down? Is there a certain noise to listen for? I'd like to be able to recognize it if it happens so I can shut the bike down before I do too much damage.

His has a two speed transmission, so it has a little more potential. It is going a little faster now. There was a small carbon buildup in the exhaust. We were able to burn the carbon off with my torch and now it will run 25 to 30.

I'm helping a friend with his Honda Express and its running very smoothly, starts on the first kick, etc. But it won't do over 20mph. I know these bikes weren't fast, but 20mph is way to slow. Wasn't there a version of the Express that came with a restrictor on it?

Ok, I pulled the line and it is getting oil to the intake.

I just replaced my damaged oil tank so I can now use my oil injector, but now I'm haveing a problem with air in the lines. I've bled the system several times, and there is plenty of oil in the tank, but I still get air bubbles. When I rev the engine, the air in the line from the tank to the pump will actually move backwards. Could I have a bad pump? I'm still premixing while I work out these issues so I don't burn my engine up.

When I got my '78 Honda NC50, the partition between the fuel and oil tanks was rusted through so I couldn't use the oil tank. I just acquired a new tank, also off a '78, that is fully intact. I just cleaned it out and put oil in it to make sure it didn't leak into the fuel side, and it didn't. I'll be installing it as soon as I strip and paint it (it's green and my bike is yellow). I'm looking forward to actually being able to use my oil injector. I know some prefer premixing, but I guess I'm lazy and want the oil pump to do it for me .

My local cops are largely indifferent towards scooters. They don't really bother us unless someone is doing something obviously wrong, but I don't think they would give a hoot about a stolen scooter either.

It's running a lot better now. It's not cutting out, the idle is good, and the carb is no longer flooding. The guy I got it from is still going to give me a new carburetor and a fuel tank and petcock that's in much better condition. He's even going to strip and repaint the fuel tank and make new decals for it, all for free. The carb is not from an NC50, but he has also made a custom intake manifold that the new carb will bolt right up to.
