I'm helping a friend with his Honda Express and its running very smoothly, starts on the first kick, etc. But it won't do over 20mph. I know these bikes weren't fast, but 20mph is way to slow. Wasn't there a version of the Express that came with a restrictor on it?

I had one a long time ago as a kid. 25 mph is about as fast as they will go,being a single speed drive train.

I had one that would do 35 all day long . As old as it is I would say the rings and piston are worn , and to be able to get top speed a rebuild would be required

His has a two speed transmission, so it has a little more potential. It is going a little faster now. There was a small carbon buildup in the exhaust. We were able to burn the carbon off with my torch and now it will run 25 to 30.
