Lets face it the Top Gear choice of the Fly 50 was to get laughs and such. Riding in on the Piaggio BV350, the big MP3 or the Scarabeo 500ie would have been much less laughable. The Aprilia Sport City 250 would have been a sane choice too as it would keep up with any group riding at even interstate speeds. Yes, but their whole point was to mock scooters. If they wanted to make a valid point about them, then using one of the ones you suggested would make sense. They didn't want that because it wouldn't have been funny, not that it was funny to begin with.

Well I caught Top Gear again and they were on Piaggios but they did not say what model , but they said they topped at 39 MPH . Was funny to watch them ride a scooter at Sturgis They're riding Fly 50s. It's a funny thing about scooters and Harleys. When I'm riding my Guzzi, probably 1/2 of the Harley riders won't wave at me. When I'm on my scooter, just about all of them wave. Not sure why this is, but I think it's because they won't wave at anything that even remotely looks like it's copying their bike. Obviously the scooter doesn't look anything like a Harley. I wouldn't have any hesitation about riding to Sturgis on a scooter.

Yeah, I'd at least have tennies on, even on vacation and renting. And if I packed them, pants and a jacket. But I'd be uncomfortable without my armoured jacket and pants. And gloves! (and may I always feel uncomfortable without my gear) >'Kat I'm with you. It felt weird riding in shorts and no jacket. Just felt better for that day. I don't ride that way around Atlanta, whether I'm on my motorcycle or my wife's scooter!

Over July 4th, we rented scooters while at St. Simon's Island. 50cc, so no MC license required. They did supply helmets, but we brought ours since we knew ahead of time. Light, small, cheap and perfect since the speed limit didn't get above 35 at all!
I always ride ATG ATT, except this one day. On vacation, slow speeds, decided I didn't want to, but everyone at least wore close toed shoes, not flip flops.

Most of the local shops here carry them as well. Not cheap, but nice!

Oh, and I agree with dom'. Can you test-drive each one? See if there's any differences in sizing as well as looks. I know the seats are the same height. But they're not the same design. Maybe one's more comf' for you than the other. Or maybe one's handles sit a little higher, or a bit closer. The dealer really should allow you to drive both before shelling out the money. Same as a car dealer. If nothing else, sit on each one for a while. >'Kat I've sat on both in the past. Both felt good, which is why I was asking about the engines. Both are for sale from a private seller, so hopefully they'll let me test ride.

Guzzi, know of any scooter shops in the atl area? I may need to take mine in for something I use Marietta Vespa. Not sure if they'll work on the Tomos though. Twist 'n Scoot in Atlanta and Decatur as well, but you may have to same problem.

I rode both and bought a 2009 S200 leftover back in 2011. Cost less than a new 150 at the time. They both were about the same except for 3-4 mph at best top end (GPS). So I guess it's a matter of what a couple of mph are worth to you. If everything were equal at the time I would have bought the 150 and put the cash in my pocket. But I don't care about top end. If you do you could eat up the savings trying to get those few mph back later. I've found the 200 to be rock solid ,just over 10k miles, and would expect the 150 to be the same. Thanks, this was what I was looking for. A real world test of the two. I thought this was the case, but I couldn't find anything anywhere saying that.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't answer how much difference there is in the engines. Actually, I think it maybe does. I figured you'd check the detailed specs on each one. I didn't 'cause they mean nothing to me. But I guess I can cut'n'paste for you. Specs for the 200-- Engine Type Single-Cylinder Cylinders 1 Engine Stroke 4-Stroke Cooling Air Valves 2 Valves Per Cylinder 2 Valve Configuration SOHC Bore (mm/in) 60 / 2.36 Stroke (mm/in) 57.8 / 2.28 Displacement (cc/ci) 163 / 9.9 Starter Electric / Kick Fuel Requirements Regular US Miles Per Gallon (Combined) CAN Liters Per Kilometer (Combined) 2.6 Fuel Type Gas Carburetion Brand Keihin Fuel Injector No Carburetor Yes Number Of Carburetors 1 Carburetor?Size (mm) 22.1 Carburetion Type Carburetor Speed Governor No And for the 150-- Engine Type Single-Cylinder Cylinders 1 Engine Stroke 4-Stroke Cooling Air Valves 2 Valves Per Cylinder 2 Valve Configuration SOHC Bore (mm/in) 57.4 / 2.26 Stroke (mm/in) 57.8 / 2.28 Displacement (cc/ci) 152 / 9.3 Starter Electric / Kick Fuel Requirements Regular US Miles Per Gallon (Combined) 75 CAN Liters Per Kilometer (Combined) 3.1 Fuel Type Gas Carburetion Brand Keihin Fuel Injector No Carburetor Yes Number Of Carburetors 1 Carburetor?Size (mm) 22.1 Carburetion Type Carburetor Speed Governor No Was THAT what you wanted? Looks to me like lots of the specs are the same while some things aren't. Hope it helps. >'Kat I read all that, I have no idea what the numbers means, lol. That's why I asked. Thanks.

The 200 will move better on the highway. A tuned 150 can top out around 65MPH, but usually rides best below 50MPH (~35-40MPH). A tuned 200cc usually tops out around 70MPH, and rides best below 58MPH (~40-45MPH); depending on how it's geared. The S200 is actually a 163 vs the 152 of the People 150. That's why I was curious if there was any real difference between them. I can get a 150 for less than $1300, while the S200 is around $1700.

I'm trying to figure out the differences between these 2 bikes. Is it strictly an ergonomic thing, or is there a difference in the engine as well. Both engines seem similar in size, so I'm guessing the performance will be similar.
Does anyone have experience with these two? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another scooter, and think one of these will be it.
Thanks!
