I wrote this elsewhere but yesterday I started a bike for the first time in two years with two year old, maybe older, ethanol in the tank. It started, ran fine and idles evenly. I hear the stories but I haven't had the problem. I'm still curious how many people just bought gas stirred up by recent delivery.

OK - from the "I might be crazy" department...
I ran ONE tank of premium, ninety-three octane e-blend (when I needed fuel, and no ethanol-free available) - and I swear the engine sounded different! Not worse, not better - but different in tone!
Am I insane? Are they "coming to take me away"?

No, you're not crazy. Ethanol burns cooler and could very well lead to a different tone. I have actually found my engines feel smoother or lumpier with different oils in them.

"If you see the tanker, don't fill up." Of course, you don't know if the tanker just pulled out a couple minutes earlier. Say--how long does the crud stay all stirred up? >'Kat

It all depends on how much sludge was in the tank to start with. It's why I wonder why so many people have ethanol ills when some don't.

Ya wanna get a real good handle for issues with this contact my Homeboy here. Meet Bill, his daughter Julie and son Dan. Dan does all the Saw and rest of two cycle repairs, normal back log this time of year is two months.. This is in the Snow belt were all the seasons are very short, all the power equipment is used for a short period of time and stored for longs periods with the fuel, and for Joe home owner mixing up 2 gallons of premix for the saw, weedwacker and backpack blower will last several years. The last time we had a direct conversation on how good business with the Ethanol Bill indicated up wards of 300 complete carbs and as many carb kits. now last fall they have almost completely moved away from carb kits as if it don't fix it they have eat to the parts and labor and install a new carb, so now there selling over 600 complete carbs per year. Bill and I also have a mutual friend who is a competitor of his with Two stores and does abbots the same amount of Carb work all Ethanol related.

Now we have four of these Alky Briggs based gimmicky JR Dragsters in house for the kids to learn on. After you learn all the cars are for sale and I think this one goes for over $15,000 The maybe come out once or twice a month or so and we just fuel em and run em. Now if it ws mine and I raced this I would have fresh Alky in her.

I've heard the stories too and I don't doubt the honesty of the tellers. This past week my Eagle Milano 150 (made by Bashan) just hit the ten years old mark. I finished putting it together August 1st, 2008. It not only still has the original carburetor but also the original fuel and vacuum lines. If ethanol was so toxic the scooter should be a ball of muck by now but it still runs. I'm at 9,700 miles and it purrs like a kitten. I don't get how some don't notice the difference and some are beat up by grain gasoline.

its not that its necessarily bad for your scooter as much as its manufacture is a net energy loss compared to normal gasoline. It give less miles and power for more money and ecological damage.

And it is a form of corporate welfare... something you would think that would not sit right with most conservatives. But it is what it is. Probably not going away anytime soon.
