Dang I just don't have the drunk-flexes to balance up on anything 2-wheeled like that. I'll still be within the legal limit and not feel up to par to get on the bike. It's just not worth it even if you can get away without physical or legal damage most the time. Not saying a cage is a different story but I mean c'mon, the thing drives itself...

I went to college about 45-60 min away at Western Carolina Univ and we visited Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg a couple times, although it's kinda too touristy for us locals (notice the 14% sales tax?!) I've been on US-441 through the Great Smoky Mtns state park there on my Ninja 500, would love to do it on a scooter someday, probably need a 250+cc to manage some of those hills. That road is probably closed in the winter like most of the Blue Ridge Parkway is, though. That road breaks 5,000 ft in elevation near the NC/TN line! Clingman's Dome, at 6,643 ft, is like 10 mi away straightline from Gatlinburg. It's the highest point in TN and 3rd highest east of the Mississippi River. Having ascended Mt. Mitchell (the tallest) and Mt. Craig, naturally it's one of the next peaks on my list... I visit the Appalachian Mtns about once a month and nab as many 5k & 6k ft peaks as I can

Noice. I've gotten parts from that guy, he's down there in 'Dry Pond'. I'll have to try that kit, can't lose at that price.

Good call on mixing and matching to try to dial in the viscosity the best. I mix 5W-40 and 15W-50 for my Mercedes, those are the two recommended weights and I would usually change it for winter/summer but the interval is 10k mi so I just do half and half.

This is what I hate about oil questions. It is like arguing about religion. I'd use the 5-40 myself. And sleep well at night. It is really just too bad these scooter don't have oil pressure gauges so you can monitor the pressure generated by the pump. +1, just find something with a good reputation for your application and if you have good results, stick with it. I just coordinate the weight with the weather and application the best I can. But it's hard to know which is more important. We had a Honda Civic Hybrid with a 1.3L aluminum engine, apparently bad things happen if you stop using the factory mandated Mobil1 0W-20, even when it's 106*F outside. I've had really good results using fully synthetic 5W-40 in my motorcycles (particularly for the wet clutch) and scooters. I use cheap 10W-40 conventional for break-ins. I've considered using 15W-40 in the dead of summer here. It would have to be a dramatically cooler climate for me to consider 5W-30 for small engines but that's just me...

I drilled 3 or 4 3/8" holes about 5" deep in the back of my muffler. With opening up the intake & upjetting it worked really well and wasn't that much louder.

Agreed. Though I really don't like vista. 7 is good. With Microsoft, it's an every other operating system kind if deal. Bingo! I had good success with the breakout Windows , 98 was flakey until they came out with "Second Edition" which fixed the bugs, Windows ME was HORRIBLE, XP is IMHO the best operating system of all time, Vista is maybe even worse than ME (got a bluescreen on a brand new machine within 3 weeks), Windows 7 takes all the attempted great features of Vista w/ XP's reliability... now Win8 may just be the end of the line. I guess they try to get creative and innovative and come up with some haggard junk then realize that and go back to what works lol!

I'm in the same boat. I keep going back and forth. I loved my sport bike last year but my little scooter is so convenient, a larger one would be great. I guess it depends on what kind of riding you want to do. Scoots are great for slipping around town but I don't know about taking even the bigger ones around on the highway too far.

Riding season is finally HERE dirty south! Been around 70*F here the last few days. Saw what felt like more bikes and scoots out today than cars (maybe 1/25, but coming from 1/1000 in winter...). EVERYBODY and their grandma went out for their first ride of the season this weekend. I'm still fine tuning my scooter for the season but I'll be riding daily now. Rain is so unpredictable here you just have to live with getting caught in a storm.
