Welcome, that sounds awesome!!! My uncle & grandpa have a shop/barn near Buffalo with all kinds of machines and projects going on. I try to come up there to be a part of it when I can, especially in the summer when it's 105*F down here

Indeed indeed fellow ScootDawg immigrant, glad to have many of us come over and carry on. I just felt compelled to be present as she was decommissioned a few minutes ago. There are many givers but hey, we had to be takers at some point to have something to give, eh?

It's cheaper than closing a listing and starting a new one, eh?

Stiffer torque spring could help correct that too, would it not? I kinda remember mine "engine braking" more when I got a new belt (it stayed at higher RPM's longer when decelerating). I still think it would work itself out once it gets broken in and loosened up a bit.

If you think there's a fuel delivery issue you can always try squirting a dab of gasoline or starter fluid straight into the carb intake and opening up the throttle a little bit. If that gives you some life, then you know your ignition and valve timing and what not are probably OK and focus on the carb adjustments.

Sounds like CVT to me unless there's like a vacuum leak for the engine to pull air behind the throttle body from. I bet that new belt is not wanting to travel back down the variator so much. Will probably improve as that belt gets worked in.

Remotely possible you have a Solid State Drive, in which case after a fairly extreme amount of time without power (5-10 years???) it would lose data. Many new machines use SSD b/c they are faster and safer, especially smaller ones like netbooks where power consumption is a concern. But generally 98% of computer's use a conventional disk and platter, at least for document storage, if not entirely.

I would concur that there are quality control consistency issues with a lot of the Chinese scooters. Sometimes you get a good one sometimes not so much. Sounds like I got lucky.

I was about to buy an '03 Aprilia Atlantic 500 for $2000 to ride daily & on long trips but got scared off by the recalls/defects known to potentially cause engine damage and require a complete rebuild. Would suck gonads to have to go through all that anyways even with a quality bike. Ended up buying a late 's 4 cylinder Mercedes C220 with a dented hood & bumper from the insurance auction for $500 as my daily driver and now I'm looking at 150cc's for joy rides. I have no qualms about considering a cheap Chinese bike for this purpose. I'd really like to get a mid-tier brand like the top-notch Chinese Puma's. 12 mo / 6k mi warranty and much higher quality materials and construction than the basement bargain Tao Tao's. I need to save my money to keep my Merc running now!

Exactly, I like the Bronco trade because in my mind the Chinese bikes are somewhat equivalent to buying an old busted up beater for your first car. You're probably going to wreck some stuff up so no sense in starting off right at the top. There were kids at my high school that drove their parents' BMW or Audi right at 16... I wasn't disgusted b/c they were more affluent than I was, I just thought that you need to learn and grow to appreciate nice things. The lessons and experience learned from keeping something an inch from death running are worth their weight in gold. Hopefully you won't need to jump through the same hoops once you upgrade but it's reassuring to know you can.

My grandfather gave me some stickers from the Army from 1963 with a list of general driving procedures and checks that I affix to all my machines. Some are less applicable than others (#16 Smoke at halts only) but it reminds me to take the time to give everything a one over. Literally seconds today can save you from consequences that could last for years.

It pays to invest. I've had my Vendetta 2 full face with tinted visor for over a year, SNELL approved and very comfortable, was like $125 locally w/ the extra visor and everything. Decent ventilation (sometimes I have to leave the visor cracked if it's really humid outside) but very good wind and water protection. No complaints riding up to 135 MPH on my Ninja 500 or 70 MPH during a thunderstorm. In fact wind/noise resistance was so good I rarely even bothered to "tuck" below the tiny windscreen. My Tao Tao came with a cheap like $20 full face helmet. I tried it on once and was like .... I would feel safer with a bicycle helmet. I've been very fortunate that my helmet hasn't really come into play in both of my accidents so far but you never know.
I remember a long time ago I think it was Bell had a slogan for cyclists like "If you get a $10 helmet, you have a $10 head!"
