You could always get a brand new long case engine for like $300 shipped for your tao tao if you're that worried about it, then everything would be brand new. But 3300km is not bad esp if it's mostly stock. I'll tell you as much as anyone about Chinese reliability, but yours should have plenty of life left. I just bought a '15 thunder with 5600km off Craigslist in High Point. It was only $200 but it had a few issues, mostly from previous owner(s)'s poor workmanship, but I got it running better than new for under $100 in parts. I came this close to picking up a pristine '13 kymco in Greensboro for $1000 but couldn't pass up how ridiculously cheap the tao tao was and to be honest, I really liked the updated styling of the thunder. It's a good looking bike. But it will probably be my daily rider soon too so I understand your desire for a better made scooter.

Awesome instructions thanks Glenn the man! I figured premix was the safest bet to start with but unsure how to make sure when the injection is working right. Good point about draining the carb bowl first to get premix in there right away. We'll see how it goes today, much appreciated.

I've had some of my Derbi GP1 50cc 2T taken apart for various things over the winter and haven't run it in 4-6 months. Any advice on bleeding air out of the oil pump & lines and ensuring adequate lubrication for the first few starts?

Yeah through more research I've realized 90cc is much more intense an upgrade than the many 100cc (83cc) kits I've done on 4Ts. I'm going to stick to a 70cc and maybe try to modify my intake and exhaust at some point to increase flow.

Awesome, that is what I figured but I wanted to be sure before I defile my rare & near mint 10 year old Derbi!!! I read somewhere there is a way to derestrict the stock pipe so I'll probably get adventurous with an angle grinder and drill some day. Really appreciate the 2T advice carasdad.

I've already decided I'm going to get a BBK for my Derbi GP1 but I like the reliability and sound of the stock intake/exhaust and performance carbs are very expensive for this motor. Because I do not plan to modify or replace the intake or exhaust I am not expecting major speed gains, but would like to realize some extra torque. Will I still see a benefit with a 70cc or even 90cc BBK with just rejetting the carb? Would I be "starving" the engine of air and potentially hurting anything?

Yeah I would have definitely screwed mine up it sounds like. Sucks you had to learn a lesson the hard way, but it'll save me from it! I'm putting in a Airsal "sport" 70 cc kit I'm going to try derestricting my stock exhaust at the same time so it'll be like a whole new monster.

Interesting, good stuff to know. I am in the process of putting a BBK on my 2T Derbi and was going to run some pre-mix in addition to the oil injection because I thought the extra oil would help her break-in. Bad idea.

I'm about 50/50... I've pulled over and helped someone about as many times as I've been blessed to have someone stop for me when I really am in need. I live on the edge and run out of gas a lot, nowadays I'm prepared for it but I used to not be. The first night I owned my Ninja 500 I didn't know/realize the previous owner left it on reverse fuel and ran bone dry, a guy stopped and came back 10 min later with a filled gas can for me at 4 45 AM

Typically the factory variator weights are quite heavy. Get some lighter weights and you will see a great improvement in acceleration.

[replyingto=prodigit]prodigit[/replyingto]Hahaha I'd go with Corvette engine in a Civic. Sure it's possible, in fact it may have even been done before, but it's going to require so much custom fabrication and modification to pull it off... and still not really be considered safe or functional...

Interesting, I always suspected this was the case but nice to see a credible source test it out! I have to use 2 base gaskets with my 50mm BBK as it is with the included head, is this with one or two base gaskets?
