It suddenly occurred to me it's july 20, has it really been forty four years since Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon?

Yes, it has. Best b'day present anyone could ever give me. Neil Armstrong picked MY b'day to walk on the moon. Oh yeah.
You know, he really had no idea what he was going to say. He knew he should say something meaningful. And it just came out. True heroes. All of them. And also great big boys, 'cause after the initial OMG it turned into fun time.
Sure wish I could've met the man, just once.
Happy 44th, Eagle!

Was a little boy about 5 or 6, glued to a black and white tv, watching Walter Cronkite narrate this as it happened live.. A pack of wild horses couldn't have drug me from that tv... Now NASA is nothing... What a shame

Is it not better efficient private corporations have taken over space flights / missions? ;D Mars 2023!!! Perhaps your right.. I know they say it will be more efficient and cost effective, and Gov tends to be pretty wasteful in my experience.. I just remember as a boy the pride this nation had with the NASA Apollo program, I remember it again when the Shuttle was first launched.. It was a pride that was felt nation wide, by all.. And in my opinion it gave Fantastic roll models for our children to aspire to.. There were many benefits that we as a nation seen from that program... Perhaps it's best days are over, and the concept of NASA outdated, to be bettered by private industry's.. As I said earlier time will tell.
