Late to the game, but 62 degrees and put 42 miles on today after two days of wrenching/cleaning.

Does it really have a starter/alternator combo? I haven't seen anything like that in years. If it were me I would disconnect the wires from the solenoid and touch them together then hit the starter button and see what happens. The solenoid just protects the starter button from high tension wear and one hit won't damage it. w650,According to the shop manual, it does have a starter/alternator combo. These scoots are "Greek to me" being an old-school Harley dinosaur... LOL! You're absolutely right about the solenoid only to protect the little pee-wee wired starter button. However, the doggoned solenoid is factory-wired DIRECTLY to the BATTERY. When touching the wires together, the starter spins regardless of use of the starter button. Touching the wires together, or simply shorting across the terminals always engages the starter... Even if there's NO juice to anything else. The only diagnosis I performed so far was to check the solenoid with a resistance meter, and it definitely is "stuck" in the start position. So IT is verified no-good... After only a dozen starts! I'm still at a loss as to why the battery got red-hot. I truly think it shorted out a cell or two. It's seven years old and I should have replaced it... But it was always reliable and held a charge fine, so I got cheap... LOL! When the engine started for that last ride, all seemed normal. I could plainly hear the starter-clutch disengage as soon as the motor fired up. Red "battery" light went out as usual, showing good charge. Then minutes later, the red-light came on and the motor died in seconds, the starter feebly trying to engage until the battery dropped below enough voltage to do anything. Currently, the weather is just AWFUL, keeping me from working on it. I still can't imagine a fuse NOT being blown, or some wires being fried. I think all the fuses are in one place by the battery. I need to be sure there are not others hid away some place... Sure would be nice if a new FUSE, and new SOLENOID and new BATTERY would fix the old Mouse, but... I'm not holding my breath... When it warms up and quits raining, I'll get back to work and see if I can find the gremlin... I also realize even the shop manual is not really clear about the alternator/starter combo. The English translation is little better than Chinese manuals... It's entirely possible that the charging takes place "elsewhere" on the motor. I'll keep posting as I learn more... It seems most Kymcos of various models use a similar system to my old Grandvista, and I may learn some good stuff to pass on to others. Stay warm! Leo I was kind of running into the same thing. I Googled how to test a MC battery and happened on a Harley Youtube video which lead to the testing the starter, solenoid, battery/battery drain. Winner, winner, 4-year old battery was toast. Easy peasey..

Was just checking my local CL and saw an add with this text and almost choked...
This scooter only has 870 miles on it. Runs perfect! A fully street legal 2006 TANK MOPED 150cc, these will do 65mph on the freeway with a passenger on the back. Just put brand new battery in it,electric and kick start.

Neighbor of mine was having this issue. Told him to pull his starter and bring it over and I would take a look. Think we found one problem...

I have had two starters that the ground had separated. Two screws where wires go into the starter motor, take them out and have a look under it. Might be worth it to take a look.

Thanks HBB! I actually have one of those around here somewhere. I was able to find a complete gauge cluster and it is on its way. Good thing as the blasted fuel guage is acting up, but going to pull the sender and check it.

I feel your pain. 30" inseam for me has to even be washed a couple of times. looks sweet... congrats. I have a 30" inseam so tall bikes are big problems for me... with me it's not about flatfooting them, it's getting my dang leg over 'em. My 1500cc Goldwing is almost too tall.

UPDATE- After looking at it, will not be worth my time to diddle around with it. Found one online to order, but will have to swap out the volt meter for my turnsignal.

The ST125 is a manual 4-speed. I finally figured out that the clutch cable nut had backed out. Put it back where it was supposed to be and all is good. That thing is a screamer!

I really like it also. Feels very firm on the streets. Problem is trying to figure how to adjust the clutch, etc. and appears (at least to me) that gears are very close. It is wicked tight, unlike my CT70H Honda (of course it is a 1971). Any help on the 125 would be most appreciated. I love the little 125. Is that a manual or cvt?

Thought I would post one of my updates for fuel delivery issues. Over the Tank's life I had gone through three of the crappy vacuum fuel valves. I replaced the orginal style with one of the newer ones. In this case I stopped at a small engine repair shop and picked up this Mikuni for $14 last time I needed one (didn't want to wait to order one). So for the last three years, no fuel problems ever.
